Luke 24:35-49 - Jesus Appears To The Disciples

Luke 24:35-49

35 Then they began to tell what happened on the road, and he was known to them when he broke the bread.

36 While they were yet speaking he stood among them and said, "Peace be to you!" 37 They were startled and terrified and thought that they were seeing a ghost. 38 And he said to them. "Why are you disturbed? And why do questions rise in your hearts? 39 "Look at my hands and my feet. It is I! Feel me and see; for a ghost has not flesh and blood as I have." 40 Then he showed them his hands and feet. 41 But while they still did not believe it for joy, and were filled with wonder, he asked them, "Have you anything here to eat?" 42 So they gave him a piece of broiled fish, 43 and he took it and ate it in their presence.

44 Then he said to them, "These are my words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, how all things must be fulfilled which are written in the Law of Moses, and the prophets, and the Psalms concerning me." 45 Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, 46 and he said: "Thus it is written that the Christ should suffer and rise again from the dead, the third day; 47 "and that repentance unto remission of sins should be preached in his name unto all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. 48 "You must bear testimony to this. 49 "And I will send forth the promise of my Father upon you. But tarry in Jerusalem until you are clothed with power from on high."

John 20:19-23

19 On the evening of that same day, the first day of the week, although the doors of the room where the disciples gathered had been locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came, and there he stood among them, saying. "Peace to you!"

20 As he said this he showed them his hands and his side. Then were the disciple glad, when they saw the Lord.

21 Then Jesus said to them again. "Peace to you. As my Father has sent me forth, I also now am sending you." 22 When he had said this he breathed upon them and said: 23 "Receive the Holy Spirit. If you remit any one's sins, they are remitted; if you retain them they are retained."
