Then Abishai, the son of Zeruiah, said unto the king, Why should this dead dog curse, my lord the king? Let me go over, I pray thee, and take off his head.

And the Philistine said unto David, Am I a dog that thou comest to me with staves? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.

And David said unto him, Fear not; for I will surely show thee mercy for Jonathan, thy father's sake, and will restore unto thee all the land of Saul, thy father; and thou shalt eat bread at my table continually. And he bowed himself and said, Who is thy slave, that thou should look upon such a dead dog as I am? David also arose afterward and went out of the cave and cried after Saul, saying, My lord the king. And when Saul looked behind him, David stooped with his face to the earth and worshipped.

And Joab fell to the ground on his face and worshipped and blessed the king, and Joab said, Today thy slave knows that I have found grace in thy sight, my lord, O king, in that the king has fulfilled the word of his slave.
