Constitution » Agreement between the ruler and people
So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron. And king David made a covenant with them in Hebron before LORD, and they anointed David king over Israel.
And it shall be, when he sits upon the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write for him a copy of this law in a book, out of [it] before the priests the Levites, and it shall be with him. And he shall read in it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear LORD his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them, that his heart not be lifted up above his brothers, and that he turn not aside from the commandment, to the right hand, or to the left, to the end that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he and his sons, in the midst of Israel
And they went about in Judah, and gathered the Levites out of all the cities of Judah, and the heads of fathers of Israel, and they came to Jerusalem. And all the assembly made a covenant with the king in the house of God. And he said to them, Behold, the king's son shall reign, as LORD has spoken concerning the sons of David.

Thus says lord LORD: If the ruler gives a gift to any of his sons, it is his inheritance. It shall belong to his sons. It is their possession by inheritance. But if he gives a gift of his inheritance to one of his servants, it shall be his to the year of liberty, then it shall return to the ruler. But as for his inheritance, it shall be for his sons. Moreover the ruler shall not take of the people's inheritance, to thrust them out of their possession. He shall give inheritance to his sons out of his own possession, that my people be not scattered each man from his possession.
