you must not listen to the words of that prophet or that diviner of dreams. For the LORD your God is testing you, to make known whether or not you'll continue to love the LORD your God with all your heart and soul.


Moses told the people, "Don't be afraid, for God has come to test you, so that you may fear him in order that you don't sin."

Sometime later, God tested Abraham. He called out to him, "Abraham!" "Here I am!" he answered.


Yet, when he heard that Lazarus was ill, he stayed where he was for two more days.

When Jesus looked up and saw that a large crowd was coming toward him, he asked Philip, "Where can we buy bread for these people to eat?" Jesus said this to test him, because he himself knew what he was going to do.


After giving them a severe beating, they threw them in jail and ordered the jailer to keep them under tight security. Having received these orders, he put them into the inner cell and fastened their feet in leg irons.


Consider it pure joy, my brothers, when you are involved in various trials, because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance.
