And they took their journey from Succoth, and encamped in Etham, in the edge of the wilderness. And LORD went before them by day in a pillar of cloud, to lead them the way, and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light, that they might go by day and by night.




Moreover in a pillar of cloud thou led them by day, and in a pillar of fire by night, to give them light in the way in which they should go.

But he led forth his own people like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.

Then he remembered the days of old, Moses [and] his people, [saying], Where is he who brought them up out of the sea with the shepherds of his flock? Where is he who put his holy Spirit in the midst of them, who caused his glorious arm to go at the right hand of Moses, who divided the waters before them, to make himself an everlasting name, who led them through the depths, as a horse in the wilderness, so that they stumbled not? read more.
As the cattle that go down into the valley, the Spirit of LORD caused them to rest. So thou led thy people to make thyself a glorious name.



In the daytime also he led them with a cloud, and all the night with a light of fire.


And the agent of God, who went before the camp of Israel, moved and went behind them, and the pillar of cloud moved from before them, and stood behind them.

And it came to pass in the morning watch, that LORD looked forth upon the army of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and of cloud, and troubled the army of the Egyptians.

For the cloud of LORD was upon the tabernacle by day, and there was fire therein by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel, throughout all their journeys.

And LORD went before them by day in a pillar of cloud, to lead them the way, and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light, that they might go by day and by night. The pillar of cloud by day, and the pillar of fire by night departed not from before the people.

And on the day that the tabernacle was reared up the cloud covered the tabernacle, even the tent of the testimony, and at evening it was upon the tabernacle, as it were the appearance of fire, until morning. So it was always: the cloud covered it, and the appearance of fire by night. And whenever the cloud was taken up from over the tent, then after that the sons of Israel journeyed. At the commandment of LORD the sons of Israel journeyed, and at the commandment of LORD they encamped. As long as the cloud abode upon the tabernacle they remained encamped. And when the cloud tarried upon the tabernacle many days, then the sons of Israel kept the charge of LORD, and did not journey. And sometimes the cloud was a few days upon the tabernacle, then according to the commandment of LORD they remained encamped, and according to the commandment of LORD they journeyed. And sometimes the cloud was from evening until morning, and when the cloud was taken up in the morning, they journeyed, or [if] by day and by night, when the cloud was taken up, they journeyed. Whether it was two days, or a month, or a year, that the cloud tarried upon the tabernacle, abiding on it, the sons of Israel remained encamped, and did not journey, but when it was taken up, they journeyed. At the commandment of LORD they encamped, and at the commandment of LORD they journeyed. They kept the charge of LORD, at the commandment of LORD by Moses.

And I answered the second time, and said to him, What are these two olive-branches, which are beside the two golden spouts that empty the golden [oil] out of themselves? And he answered me and said, Do thou not know what these are? And I said, No, my lord.


And LORD said to Moses, Lo, I come to thee in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with thee, and may also believe thee forever. And Moses told the words of the people to LORD.

And it came to pass on the third day, when it was morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of an exceedingly loud trumpet. And all the people who were in the camp trembled.
