And Solomon sought to kill Jeroboam; and Jeroboam arose and fled into Egypt, to Shishak king of Egypt; and he was in Egypt until the death of Solomon.
And there was a famine in the land. And Abram went down to Egypt to sojourn there, for the famine was grievous in the land.
And they said to Pharaoh, To sojourn in the land are we come; for there is no pasture for the sheep that thy servants have, for the famine is grievous in the land of Canaan; and now, we pray thee, let thy servants dwell in the land of Goshen.

And Joseph came and told Pharaoh and said, My father and my brethren, and their sheep and their cattle, and all that they have, are come out of the land of Canaan; and behold, they are in the land of Goshen. And he took from the whole number of his brethren, five men, and set them before Pharaoh. And Pharaoh said to his brethren, What is your occupation? And they said to Pharaoh, Thy servants are shepherds, both we and our fathers. read more.

Few and evil have been the days of the years of my life, and they do not attain to the days of the years of the life of my fathers, in the days of their sojourning. And Jacob blessed Pharaoh, and went out from Pharaoh.

And he sent Judah before him to Joseph, to give notice before he came to Goshen. And they came into the land of Goshen. And Joseph said to his brethren and to his father's house, I will go up, and tell Pharaoh, and say to him, My brethren and my father's house, who were in the land of Canaan, are come to me; and the men are shepherds, for they have been occupied with cattle; and they have brought their sheep, and their cattle, and all that they have. And it shall come to pass that when Pharaoh shall call you and say, What is your occupation? then ye shall say, Thy servants are men that have been occupied with cattle from our youth even until now, both we and our fathers; in order that ye may dwell in the land of Goshen; for every shepherd is an abomination to the Egyptians.
And Joseph said to his brethren and to his father's house, I will go up, and tell Pharaoh, and say to him, My brethren and my father's house, who were in the land of Canaan, are come to me; and the men are shepherds, for they have been occupied with cattle; and they have brought their sheep, and their cattle, and all that they have.
