And LORD gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians. Moreover the man Moses was very great in the land of Egypt, in the sight of Pharaoh's servants, and in the sight of the people.


He sent darkness, and made it dark. And they rebelled against his words.

And LORD said to Moses, Stretch out thy hand toward heaven, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even darkness which may be felt. And Moses stretched forth his hand toward heaven, and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days,


We remember the fish which we ate in Egypt for nothing, the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlic,

And the seven years of plenty, that was in the land of Egypt, came to an end. And the seven years of famine began to come, according as Joseph had said. And the pillars [of Egypt] shall be broken in pieces. All those who work for hire [shall be] grieved in soul.


And the flax and the barley were smitten, for the barley was in the ear, and the flax was in bloom.


And all the souls who came out of the loins of Jacob were {seventy-five (LXX/NT)} souls. And Joseph was in Egypt already.

And these are the names of the sons of Israel who came into Egypt with their father Jacob, Jacob and his sons: The firstborn of Jacob, Reuben. These are the sons of Bilhah, whom Laban gave to Rachel his daughter, and these she bore to Jacob; all the souls were seven. All the souls who came with Jacob into Egypt, that came out of his loins, besides the wives of the sons of Jacob, all the souls were sixty-six. And the sons of Joseph, who were born to him in Egypt, were {nine (LXX)}souls. All the souls of the house of Jacob who came into Egypt, were {seventy-five (LXX/NT)}.

Thy fathers went down into Egypt, in souls, seventy. And now LORD thy God has made thee as the stars of heaven for multitude.

And Joseph having sent forth, he summoned Jacob his father. And all his kinfolk, in souls, were seventy-five.


And he said to Abram, Know of a certainty that thy seed shall be sojourners in a land that is not theirs. And shall serve them, and they shall afflict them four hundred years. And also I will judge that nation, whom they shall serve, and afterward they shall come out with great substance.

And God spoke thus: His seed would be alien in a foreign land, and they would enslave and mistreat them four hundred years. And I will judge the nation to whomever they will be in bondage, God said, and after these things they will come forth and serve me in this place.


And the sons of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand on foot who were men, besides children.

And they took their journey from Succoth, and encamped in Etham, in the edge of the wilderness.
