Anger of God » Should lead to repentance
Who gave Jacob as plunder, and Israel to the robbers? Didn't Yahweh, he against whom we have sinned? For they would not walk in his ways, and they disobeyed his law. Therefore he poured the fierceness of his anger on him, and the strength of battle; and it set him on fire all around, but he didn't know; and it burned him, but he didn't take it to heart."

and you have forgotten the exhortation which reasons with you as with children, "My son, don't take lightly the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when you are reproved by him;
Yet the people have not turned to him who struck them, neither have they sought Yahweh of Armies.
"I have struck your children in vain. They received no correction. Your own sword has devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.
"I struck you with blight and mildew many times in your gardens and your vineyards; and your fig trees and your olive trees have the swarming locust devoured: yet you haven't returned to me," says Yahweh.
and they blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores. They didn't repent of their works.
Why should you be beaten more, that you revolt more and more? The whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.

O Yahweh, don't your eyes look on truth? You have stricken them, but they were not grieved. You have consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction. They have made their faces harder than a rock. They have refused to return.
I said, "Just fear me. Receive correction, so that her dwelling won't be cut off, according to all that I have appointed concerning her." But they rose early and corrupted all their doings.

But according to your hardness and unrepentant heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath, revelation, and of the righteous judgment of God;
Blessed is the man who always fears; but one who hardens his heart falls into trouble.
He who is often rebuked and stiffens his neck will be destroyed suddenly, with no remedy.
Therefore he poured the fierceness of his anger on him, and the strength of battle; and it set him on fire all around, but he didn't know; and it burned him, but he didn't take it to heart."
but exhort one another day by day, so long as it is called "today;" lest any one of you be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.
