"Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects. Therefore do not despise the chastening of the Almighty.
My son, don't despise Yahweh's discipline, neither be weary of his reproof:
and you have forgotten the exhortation which reasons with you as with children, "My son, don't take lightly the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when you are reproved by him;

You shall consider in your heart that as a man chastens his son, so Yahweh your God chastens you.
My son, don't despise Yahweh's discipline, neither be weary of his reproof: for whom Yahweh loves, he reproves; even as a father reproves the son in whom he delights.

Yahweh, correct me, but in measure: not in your anger, lest you bring me to nothing.
Every branch in me that doesn't bear fruit, he takes away. Every branch that bears fruit, he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.

Therefore seeing we have this ministry, even as we obtained mercy, we don't faint.

I will send the wild animals among you, which will rob you of your children, destroy your livestock, and make you few in number; and your roads will become desolate. "'If by these things you won't be reformed to me, but will walk contrary to me; then I will also walk contrary to you; and I will strike you, even I, seven times for your sins. I will bring a sword upon you, that will execute the vengeance of the covenant; and you will be gathered together within your cities: and I will send the pestilence among you; and you will be delivered into the hand of the enemy. When I break your staff of bread, ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and they shall deliver your bread again by weight: and you shall eat, and not be satisfied. "'If you in spite of this won't listen to me, but walk contrary to me; then I will walk contrary to you in wrath; and I also will chastise you seven times for your sins.

Yet the people have not turned to him who struck them, neither have they sought Yahweh of Armies.

O Yahweh, don't your eyes look on truth? You have stricken them, but they were not grieved. You have consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction. They have made their faces harder than a rock. They have refused to return.
I said, "Just fear me. Receive correction, so that her dwelling won't be cut off, according to all that I have appointed concerning her." But they rose early and corrupted all their doings.

The rod of correction gives wisdom, but a child left to himself causes shame to his mother.
A fool despises his father's correction, but he who heeds reproof shows prudence.
Better is open rebuke than hidden love.
