Nadab, the son of Jeroboam, became king over Israel in the second year that Asa was king of Judah; and he was king of Israel for two years. He did evil in the eyes of Jehovah. He copied the evil ways of his father. He made Israel sin so much that they provoked Jehovah to anger with their idols. And Baasha, the son of Ahijah, of the family of Issachar, made a secret design against him, attacking him at Gibbethon, a town of the Philistines. Nadab and the armies of Israel were making war on Gibbethon.

Everything else that Nadab did is recorded in The History of the Kings of Israel.


Aaron's sons Nadab and Abihu each took an incense burner. They put burning coals and incense in it. Then in Jehovah's presence they offered this unauthorized fire. A fire flashed from Jehovah and burned them. They died in the presence of Jehovah.

Nadab and Abihu died because they offered unauthorized fire in Jehovah's presence.

Nadab and Abihu died in Jehovah's presence because they offered unauthorized fire in his presence in the Desert of Sinai. They had no children. So only Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests during the lifetime of their father Aaron.


Make linen robes, belts, and turbans for Aaron's sons. These clothes will give them dignity and honor. Dress your brother Aaron and his sons in these clothes and anoint them, ordain them, and set them apart to serve me as priests. Make linen undergarments to cover them down to their thighs. read more.
Aaron and his sons must wear them when they go into the tent of meeting or when they come near the altar to serve as priests in the holy place. They will be blameless and will not die. This is a long lasting law for him and his descendants.

Jehovah continued: Bring your brother Aaron and his sons Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar to you from all the Israelites. They will serve me as priests.

The clothes they will make are as follows: a breastplate, an ephod and the robe that is worn with it, another specially woven linen robe, the chief priest's turban, and a cloth belt. They will make these holy clothes for your brother Aaron and his sons so that they will be able to serve me as priests.

In the third year of the rule of Asa, king of Judah, Baasha put him to death, and became king in his place. When he became king, he sent destruction on all the offspring of Jeroboam. He killed every person of the family of Jeroboam according to the word of Jehovah as stated by his servant Ahijah the Shilonite. This happened because Jeroboam aroused the anger of Jehovah, the God of Israel, by the sins he committed and that he caused Israel to commit. Jehovah said to Moses: You and Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and seventy of Israel's elders come up the mountain to me and worship at a distance.

Moses and Aaron, together with Nadab and Abihu and the seventy leaders, went up the mountain. They saw the God of Israel. Under his feet was something that looked like a pavement made out of sapphire. It was as bright as the sky.


The sons of Onam: Shammai and Jada. The sons of Shammai: Nadab and Abishur.

The sons of Nadab: Seled and Appaim. Seled died without children.


Moses said to Aaron and to his sons Eleazar and Ithamar: Do not leave your hair uncombed or tear your clothes to show that you are in mourning. If you do you will die. For Jehovah will be angry with the whole community. But all other Israelites are allowed to mourn this death caused by the fire Jehovah sent. You are Jehovah's chosen priests. You must not leave the sacred tent, or you will die. Aaron and his two sons obeyed Moses.


Moses called Mishael and Elzaphan, the sons of Uzziel, Aaron's uncle. He said: Come here and carry your cousins' bodies away from the sacred tent and put them outside the camp. So they came and took hold of the clothing on the corpses. They carried them outside the camp just as Moses had commanded.


Jeroboam ruled as king for twenty-two years. He died and was buried. His son Nadab succeeded him as king.


Aaron married Elisheba, the daughter of Amminadab, the sister of Nahshon, and she bore him Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.
