Folly is joy to him who lacks sense,
But a man of understanding walks straight.



That the triumphing of the wicked is short,
And the joy of the godless momentary?

All that my eyes desired I did not refuse them. I did not withhold my heart from any pleasure, for my heart was pleased because of all my labor and this was my reward for all my labor.

For as the crackling of thorn bushes under a pot,
So is the laughter of the fool;
And this too is futility.

Gladness and joy are taken away from the fruitful field;
In the vineyards also there will be no cries of joy or jubilant shouting,
No treader treads out wine in the presses,
For I have made the shouting to cease.

Be miserable and mourn and weep; let your laughter be turned into mourning and your joy to gloom.

Folly is joy to him who lacks sense,
But a man of understanding walks straight.

Indeed, if a man should live many years, let him rejoice in them all, and let him remember the days of darkness, for they will be many. Everything that is to come will be futility. Rejoice, young man, during your childhood, and let your heart be pleasant during the days of young manhood. And follow the impulses of your heart and the desires of your eyes Yet know that God will bring you to judgment for all these things.
