Hide not thy face from me in the day when I am in trouble; incline thine ear unto me: in the day when I call answer me speedily.

{A Psalm of David.} Hear my prayer, O LORD, give ear to my supplications: in thy faithfulness answer me, and in thy righteousness.

Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice: have mercy also upon me, and answer me.

That thy beloved may be delivered: save with thy right hand, and answer me.


Let thine ear now be attentive, and thine eyes open, that thou mayest hear the prayer of thy servant, which I pray before thee now, day and night, for the children of Israel thy servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against thee: both I and my father's house have sinned.

{To the chief Musician on Neginoth, Maschil, A Psalm of David.} Give ear to my prayer, O God; and hide not thyself from my supplication.

{To the chief Musician upon Neginah, A Psalm of David.} Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer.

{A Prayer of David.} Hear the right, O LORD, attend unto my cry, give ear unto my prayer, that goeth not out of feigned lips.


And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.

I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth.

And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man: And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary. read more.
And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man; Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me. And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith. And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?


And when he was in affliction, he besought the LORD his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers,




When I cry unto thee, then shall mine enemies turn back: this I know; for God is for me.



What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.

Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.



Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens.



Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.


KOPH. I cried with my whole heart; hear me, O LORD: I will keep thy statutes.

I intreated thy favour with my whole heart: be merciful unto me according to thy word.













Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter any thing before God: for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few.










Now she that is a widow indeed, and desolate, trusteth in God, and continueth in supplications and prayers night and day.

When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday.


If thou prepare thine heart, and stretch out thine hands toward him;
