Do not accumulate large amounts of wealth on earth. This is where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal. Accumulate wealth in heaven where neither moth nor rust consumes, and where thieves do not break in and steal.
Your silver is not pure. Your beer is watered down.
Yet they did not listen to me or incline their ear. Instead they stiffened their neck (became stubborn). They did more evil than their fathers.
You have done worse than your ancestors. All of you are following your own stubborn, evil ways that keep you from listening (obeying) to me.
Yet you have not merely walked in their ways or done according to their abominations; but, as if that were too little, you acted more corruptly in all your conduct than they.
They sin more and more. They make idols from silver for themselves. These idols are skillfully made. All of them are the work of craftsmen. People say this about the Israelites: They offer sacrifices and kiss calf-shaped idols.
He then takes seven other spirits more evil than himself and they enter in and dwell. The last condition of that man becomes worse than the first.
But evil men and impostors will become worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.
After they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled and overcome; the last state is worse with them than the first.
We do not give up! Though our outward man is decaying, yet our inward man is renewed day by day. Our light affliction is for the moment. It works more exceedingly an eternal weight of glory for us. We do not look at the things that are seen, but at the things that are not seen. For the things that are seen are temporal (for a season). But the things that are not seen are eternal.
And, You, Lord, in the beginning have laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of your hands. (Psalm 102:25) They will perish but you remain. They will all grow old like a garment. Just as a coat you fold them up, and they will be changed: but you are the same, and your years will never run out.
