for sin will not have dominion over you. For ye are not under law, but under grace.

Is the law therefore against the promises of God? May it not happen! For if a law was given that could make alive, truly righteousness would be from law. But scripture confined all things under sin, so that the promise from faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.
