All these were heads of fathers’ households according to their fathers’ houses.

To the larger group you shall increase their inheritance, and to the smaller group you shall diminish their inheritance; each shall be given their inheritance according to those who were numbered of them. Those who were numbered of them were 23,000, every male from a month old and upward, for they were not numbered among the sons of Israel since no inheritance was given to them among the sons of Israel.

With them by their generations according to their fathers’ households were 36,000 troops of the army for war, for they had many wives and sons. All these were sons of Jediael, according to the heads of their fathers’ households, 17,200 mighty men of valor, who were ready to go out with the army to war.

But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and strife and disputes about the Law, for they are unprofitable and worthless.
