But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh without intermission, and so do I.

(whom Thou hast anointed,) to do whatever thy hand and thy counsel had before determined to be done.

for it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let none dwell in it; and again, Let another take his office.)

and every perfect gift, but no evil one, is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation, nor shadow of turning:

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, to day, and for ever:

If we are unfaithful, He continueth faithful notwithstanding; He cannot renounce Himself.

Wherefore God being willing more abundantly to manifest unto the heirs of the promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it with an oath:

(for they indeed are become priests without the solemnity of an oath; but He with an oath, by Him who said unto Him, "The Lord hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec:")

Let us therefore fear least a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of us should seem to fall short of it:

for verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass away, not one jot nor one tittle shall pass from the law, till all be compleated.

being regenerated not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God which liveth and abideth for ever. For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass: the grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away; but the word of the Lord abideth for ever. And this is the word which is preached to you in the gospel.
