Now Jesus being full of the holy spirit, return'd from Jordan, and was led by the spirit into the desart,

Then was Jesus led up by the Spirit into the wilderness, to be tempted by the devil:

presently after the spirit convey'd him into the desart.

you know, how his fame spread from Galilee through all Judea, after the baptism which John had preach'd: how Jesus of Nazareth divinely inspired by the holy spirit, and with miraculous power, went about doing good, and healing all that were under the oppression of the devil: because God was with him.

now to particular men the spirit gives particular gifts, that they may be displayed to greater advantage. for to one the spirit gives the knowledge of the prophetical writings; to another the same spirit gives the knowledge of the doctrines of religion; to another faith; to another the gifts of healing;read more.
to another the working of miracles; to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits; to another diversity of languages; to another the interpretation of languages. but all are wrought by one and the same spirit, distributing to every one in particular, as he thinks fit.

if we live by the spirit, let us regulate our actions by the spirit:

now when they shall lead you to deliver you up, be not sollicitous about your defence, don't premeditate upon it; but what shall be suggested to you at the very occasion, that deliver: for it is not you that will plead, but the holy spirit.

but when they take you. into custody, be not sollicitous, how or what ye shall speak, for at the very instant you shall be inspir'd what to say. for it is not properly you that speak, but the spirit of your father that speaketh by you.

when you are brought into the synagogues, and before magistrates and rulers, be not sollicitous what to say in your own defence; for the holy spirit shall instruct you on the very occasion, what is proper to be said.

then the spirit said unto Philip, go near, and advance to his chariot.

but after they had travers'd Phrygia and Galatia, they were order'd by the holy spirit not to preach the gospel in Asia: being therefore arrived in Mysia, they essayed to go into Bithynia, but the spirit of Jesus would not allow it: so they pass'd by Mysia,

in our Lord Jesus Christ. but now I am fix'd in my resolution to go to Jerusalem, without any apprehension of what may befal me there:

but when he, the spirit of truth shall come, he will inform you of all those truths: for he will not speak from himself; but the information he shall receive will he communicate: and acquaint you with what is to come.
