There is that scattereth, and increaseth yet more; And there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth only to want.
There is a grievous evil which I have seen under the sun, namely , riches kept by the owner thereof to his hurt:
For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
But they that are minded to be rich fall into a temptation and a snare and many foolish and hurtful lusts, such as drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil: which some reaching after have been led astray from the faith, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, and kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles feet.
For they know not to do right, saith Jehovah, who store up violence and robbery in their palaces.
Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon the earth, where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break through and steal:
Jesus said unto him, If thou wouldest be perfect, go, sell that which thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.
Sell that which ye have, and give alms; make for yourselves purses which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief draweth near, neither moth destroyeth.
He that withholdeth grain, the people shall curse him; But blessing shall be upon the head of him that selleth it.
Though he heap up silver as the dust, And prepare raiment as the clay; He may prepare it, but the just shall put it on, And the innocent shall divide the silver.
Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, When it is in the power of thy hand to do it.
Come now, ye rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming upon you. Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten. Your gold and your silver are rusted; and their rust shall be for a testimony against you, and shall eat your flesh as fire. Ye have laid up your treasure in the last days.
