19 Bible Verses about Interest

"If you lend money to any of my people with you who is poor, you shall not be to him as a creditor; neither shall you charge him interest.

"'If your brother has become poor, and his hand can't support him among you; then you shall uphold him. As a stranger and a sojourner he shall live with you. Take no interest from him or profit, but fear your God; that your brother may live among you. You shall not lend him your money at interest, nor give him your food for profit.

You shall not lend on interest to your brother; interest of money, interest of food, interest of anything that is lent on interest:

he who doesn't lend out his money for usury, nor take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things shall never be shaken.

he who has not given forth on interest, neither has taken any increase, who has withdrawn his hand from iniquity, has executed true justice between man and man,

Give to everyone who asks you, and do not ask him who takes away your goods to give them back again.

He who increases his wealth by excessive interest gathers it for one who has pity on the poor.

"Woe is me, my mother, that you have borne me a man of strife and a man of contention to the whole earth. I have not lent, neither have men lent to me; yet everyone of them curses me."

to a foreigner you may lend on interest; but to your brother you shall not lend on interest, that the LORD your God may bless you in all that you put your hand to, in the land where you go in to possess it.

At the end of every seven years you shall make a release. This is the way of the release: every creditor shall release that which he has lent to his neighbor; he shall not exact it of his neighbor and his brother; because the LORD's release has been proclaimed. However there shall be no poor with you; (for the LORD will surely bless you in the land which the LORD your God gives you for an inheritance to possess it;) if only you diligently listen to the voice of the LORD your God, to observe to do all this commandment which I command you this day. Beware that there not be a base thought in your heart, saying, "The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand"; and your eye be evil against your poor brother, and you give him nothing; and he cry to the LORD against you, and it be sin to you. You shall surely give him, and your heart shall not be grieved when you give to him; because that for this thing the LORD your God will bless you in all your work, and in all that you put your hand to. For the poor will never cease out of the land: therefore I command you, saying, You shall surely open your hand to your brother, to your needy, and to your poor, in your land.

You ought therefore to have deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming I should have received back my own with interest.

Then why did you not deposit my money in the bank, and at my coming, I might have earned interest on it?'
