10 Bible Verses about Jesus Foretelling His Resurrection

For as Jonah was in the whale's stomach for three days and nights, the Son of Man will be three days and nights in the heart of the earth.

It was just after that that Jesus Christ for the first time clearly taught His disciples that He had to go to Jerusalem and submit to many forms of suffering at the hands of the elders, high priests, and scribes, and be killed, but be raised to life on the third day.

While they were going about in Galilee, Jesus said to them, "The Son of Man is going to be turned over into the hands of men, and they will kill Him, but on the third day He will be raised again." And they were crushed with grief.

And while they were going down the mountain, He cautioned them not to tell anyone what they had seen, until the Son of Man should rise from the dead.

As they were walking along the road up to Jerusalem, Jesus was going on ahead of them, but they were dazed while those who were still following were afraid. Then again He took the Twelve aside and began to tell them what was going to befall Him. "Listen! We are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be turned over to the high priests and scribes, and they will sentence Him to death, and will turn Him over to the heathen, and they will make sport of Him, and spit on Him, and flog Him, and kill Him, but three days after He will rise again."

Then Jesus said to them, "You will all stumble over me, for the Scripture says, 'I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.'

And two men were talking with Him. They were Moses and Elijah, who appeared in splendor and were speaking of His departure which He was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.

Jesus answered them, "Destroy this sanctuary, and I will raise it in three days." Then the Jews retorted, "It took forty-six years to build this sanctuary, and you are going to raise it in three days!" But He meant the sanctuary of His body.read more.
So after He had risen from the dead, His disciples recalled that He had said this, and so believed the Scripture and the statement that He had made.

I am the good shepherd myself. I know my sheep and my sheep know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father, and I am giving my own life for my sheep. I have other sheep too that do not belong to this fold. I must lead them too, and they will listen to my voice, and all my sheep will become one flock with one shepherd.read more.

So some of His disciples said to one another, "What does He mean by telling us, 'In just a little while you will not see me, and yet in just a little while after you will see me again,' and 'Because I am going away to the Father'?" So they kept saying, "What does He mean by saying, 'a little while'? We do not know what He is talking about."read more.
Jesus knew that they wanted to ask Him a question, and so He said to them, "Are you inquiring of one another about this saying of mine, 'In just a little while you will not see me, and yet in just a little while after you will see me again'? I most solemnly say to you, you will weep and wail, but the world will be glad; you will grieve but your grief will be turned into gladness. When a woman is in labor, she is in pain, for her time has come, but when the baby is born, she forgets her pain because of her joy that a human being has been born into the world. So you too are now in sorrow, but I am going to see you again, and then your hearts will be happy, and no one can rob you of your happiness.
