Then He said to them, "O men sluggish in mind and slow in heart to believe all that the prophets have said! Did not the Christ have to suffer these things and thus to enter into His glory?" Then He began with Moses and went through all the prophets and explained to them all the passages in the Scriptures about Himself.

It was just after that that Jesus Christ for the first time clearly taught His disciples that He had to go to Jerusalem and submit to many forms of suffering at the hands of the elders, high priests, and scribes, and be killed, but be raised to life on the third day.

Then He instructed them for the first time that the Son of Man had to endure great suffering and be disowned by the elders and the high priests and the scribes, and be killed but rise again after three days.

And just as Moses in the desert lifted the serpent on the pole, the Son of Man must be lifted up, so that everyone who trusts in Him may have eternal life.

For they had not previously understood the Scripture which said that He must rise from the dead.

As day broke He left the house and went to a lonely spot, and the crowds continued to look for Him; they overtook Him, and tried to keep Him from leaving them. But He said to them, "To other towns also I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God, for that is what I was sent to do." So He continued to preach in the synagogues of Judea.

But John tried to prevent Him, by saying, "I have need to be baptized by you, and you come to me!" But Jesus answered him, "Let it be so now, for this is the fitting way for both of us to do our full duty to God." Then he yielded to Him.

Then He said to them, "Why is it that you were searching for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father's house?"

Just at that time some Pharisees came up and said to Him, "Get out at once! Get away from here, for Herod wants to kill you!" But He said to them: "Go and tell that fox, 'Here I am, driving out demons and performing cures, today and tomorrow, and on the third day I will finish these tasks. But I must continue on my way, for it is not possible for a prophet to perish outside Jerusalem.'

And He had to go through Samaria.

We must continue to do the works of Him who sent me while it is daylight. Night is coming when no one can do any work.

But before the end comes, the good news must be proclaimed to all the heathen.

And this good news of the kingdom must be preached all over the inhabited world, for a testimony to all the heathen, and then the end will come.

But this I tell you, brothers: Our physical bodies cannot take part in the kingdom of God; what is decaying will never take part in what is immortal. Let me tell you a secret. We shall not all fall asleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the sound of the last trumpet. For this decaying part of us must put on the body that can never decay, and this part once capable of dying must put on the body that can never die. And when this part once capable of dying puts on the body that can never die, then what the Scripture says will come true, "Death has been swallowed up in victory. O Death, where is your victory now? O Death, where is your sting?"

For we must all appear before the judgment-bar of Christ, that each may get his pay for what he has done, whether it be good or bad.

After this I had another vision: A door was standing open in heaven, and the first voice, like a trumpet, that I had heard speaking with me, said, "Come up here, and I will show you what must take place."

Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven with the key of the abyss and a great chain in his hand. He seized the dragon, the ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years. Then he said to me: "These words are trustworthy and true; the Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, sent His angel to show His slaves what must soon take place.

I again insist that if any man lets himself be circumcised, he is under obligation to obey the whole law.

The Jews answered him, "We have a law, and in accordance with that law He deserves to die, for claiming to be God's Son."

and so is obliged to offer sin-offerings, not only for the people but for himself as well.

For when a will is made, it is necessary that the death of him who makes it be proved.

Jesus answered, "I most solemnly say to you, no one can ever get into the kingdom of God, unless he is born of water and the Spirit. Whatever is born of the physical is physical, and whatever is born of the Spirit is spiritual. Never wonder at my telling you that you must all be born from above.

And He called a little child to Him, and had him stand in the midst of them, and said: "I solemnly say to you, unless you turn and become like little children, you can never get into the kingdom of heaven at all.

Jesus answered him, "I most solemnly say to you, no one can ever see the kingdom of God, unless he is born from above."

There is no salvation by anyone else, for no one else in all the wide world has been appointed among men as our only medium by which to be saved."

Though God overlooked those times of ignorance, He now commands all men everywhere to repent,

Whoever claims, "I am always in union with Him," ought to live as He lived.

It is the duty of us who are strong to bear with the weaknesses of those who are not strong, and not merely to please ourselves. Each one of us must practice pleasing his neighbor, to help in his immediate upbuilding for his eternal good.

Though I hope to come to you soon, I am writing you this, so that, if I am detained, you may know how people ought to conduct themselves in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.

But make it your habit to let worldly and old women's stories alone. Continue training yourself for the religious life. Physical training, indeed, is of some service, but religion is of service for everything, for it contains a promise for the present life as well as the future.

You must keep on fleeing from the evil impulses of youth, but ever strive for uprightness, faith, love, and peace, in association with those who call upon the Lord with pure hearts. Always avoid foolish discussions with ignorant men, for you know that they breed quarrels, and a slave of the Lord must not quarrel but must be gentle to everybody; he must be a skillful teacher, and not resentful under injuries.

For God's favor has appeared with its offer of salvation to all mankind, training us to give up godless ways and worldly cravings and live serious, upright, and godly lives in this world, while we are waiting for the realization of our blessed hope at the glorious appearing of our great God and Saviour Christ Jesus,read more.

After they had gone a long time without any food, then Paul got up among them and said: "Men, you ought to have listened to me and not to have sailed from Crete, and you would have escaped this disaster and loss. Even now I beg you to keep up your courage, for there will be no loss of life, but only of the ship. For just last night an angel of God, to whom I belong and whom I serve, stood by my sideread more.
and said, "Stop being afraid, Paul. You must stand before the Emperor; and listen! God has graciously given to you the lives of all who are sailing with you.' So keep up your courage, men, for I have confidence in my God that it will all come out just as I was told.

But the Jews objected, so I was forced to appeal to the Emperor; yet it was not because I had any charge to make against my own nation.

To Greeks and to all the other nations, to cultured and to uncultured people alike, I owe a duty.

For if I do preach the good news, I have no ground for boasting of it, for I cannot help doing it. Yes, indeed, I am accursed if I do not preach the good news. For if I do it of my own accord, I get my pay; but if I am unwilling to do it, I still am entrusted with trusteeship. Then what is the pay that I am getting? To be able to preach the good news without expense to anybody, and so never to make full use of my rights in preaching the good news.

and since you have been freed from sin, you have become the slaves of right-doing.

Yes, indeed, though I am free from any human power, I have made myself a slave to everybody, to win as many as possible. To the Jews I have become like a Jew for the winning of Jews; to men under the law, like one under the law, though I am not under the law myself, to win the men under the law; to men who have no written law, like one without any law, though I am not without God's law but specially under Christ's law, to win the men who have no written law.read more.

Each must give what he has purposed in his heart to give, not sorrowfully or under compulsion, for it is the happy giver that God loves.

A curse on the world for such influences to do wrong! For they must come, but a curse on the man from whom these influences come!
