"And every one who has left houses, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or children, or lands, for my sake, shall many times as much, and fall heir to eternal life.

"He who has saved his life shall lose it; and he who has lost his life for my sake shall find it.

"But I say to you who are my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that have no more that they can do.

And then many will stumble and fall, and will betray one another, and hate one another.

"When he gets home he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying, "Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost.'

He also said to them. "Suppose you have a friend and you go to him, 'My friend, lend me three loaves of bread,

And the Scripture was fulfilled which said, And Abraham believed God, and this was imputed to him as righteousness, and he was called God's friend.

You adulteresses, do you not know that the friendship of the world is enmity to God? Whoever, then, desires to be a friend of the world, makes himself and enemy of God.

And he said to them, "In Solemn truth I tell you that there is no one who, for the sake of the kingdom of God, has left houses, or wife, or brother, or parents, or children,

"You will be betrayed even by parents or brothers and kinsfolk, and friends.

In your diligence be free from sloth. Be glowing in spirit. Slave for the master.

So comfort one another, and try to build one another up, as indeed you are doing.

While I was with them I kept them by the power of thy name which thou hast given me. I guarded them, and none of them was lost except the son of perdition, that the Scripture might be fulfilled.

Do you therefore, beloved, because you know these things beforehand, be on your guard lest you be led astray by the error of the wicked, and so fall from your own stedfastness.

"My mother and brothers," he answered, "are those who listen to the word of God and obey it."
