ears, but cannot hear, noses, but cannot smell,

and ears, but cannot hear. Indeed, they cannot breathe.

There you will worship gods made by human hands -- wood and stone that can neither see, hear, eat, nor smell.

There is no actual speech or word, nor is its voice literally heard.

All the officials did indeed come and question Jeremiah. He told them exactly what the king had instructed him to say. They stopped questioning him any further because no one had actually heard their conversation.
