'Desolate' in the Bible
Your land is desolate, your cities burned with fire;foreigners devour your fieldsbefore your very eyes—a desolation demolished by foreigners.
I heard the Lord of Hosts say:Indeed, many houses will become desolate, grand and lovely ones without inhabitants.
Then I said, “Until when, Lord?” And He replied:Until cities lie in ruins without inhabitants, houses are without people, the land is ruined and desolate,
The waters of Nimrim are desolate;the grass is withered, the foliage is gone, and the vegetation has vanished.
Look, the Lord is stripping the earth bareand making it desolate. He will twist its surface and scatter its inhabitants:
It will never go out—day or night. Its smoke will go up forever. It will be desolate, from generation to generation;no one will pass through it forever and ever.
This is what the Lord says:I will answer you in a time of favor, and I will help you in the day of salvation.I will keep you, and I will appoint youto be a covenant for the people,to restore the land,to make them possess the desolate inheritances,
For your waste and desolate placesand your land marked by ruins—will now be indeed too small for the inhabitants, and those who swallowed you up will be far away.
For you will spread out to the right and to the left, and your descendants will dispossess nationsand inhabit the desolate cities.
You will no longer be called Deserted, and your land will not be called Desolate;instead, you will be called My Delight is in Her,and your land Married;for the Lord delights in you,and your land will be married.
