And Jehovah God saith, 'Not good for the man to be alone, I do make to him an helper -- as his counterpart.'
And the serpent hath been subtile above every beast of the field which Jehovah God hath made, and he saith unto the woman, 'Is it true that God hath said, Ye do not eat of every tree of the garden?'
And the woman saith unto the serpent, 'Of the fruit of the trees of the garden we do eat,
and of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden God hath said, Ye do not eat of it, nor touch it, lest ye die.'
And the serpent saith unto the woman, 'Dying, ye do not die,
and the man saith, 'The woman whom Thou didst place with me -- she hath given to me of the tree -- and I do eat.'
And Jehovah God saith to the woman, 'What is this thou hast done?' and the woman saith, 'The serpent hath caused me to forget -- and I do eat.'
And He said to Adam, “Because you listened to your wife’s voice and ate from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘Do not eat from it’:
You will eat from it by means of painful labor
all the days of your life.
If you do well [believing Me and doing what is acceptable and pleasing to Me], will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well [but ignore My instruction], sin crouches at your door; its desire is for you [to overpower you], but you must master it.”
Then the Lord said to Cain, “Where is Abel your brother?” And he [lied and] said, “I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?”
"What did you do?" God asked. "Your brother's blood cries out to me from the ground.
And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die.

and he saith, 'Lo, I pray you, my lords, turn aside, I pray you, unto the house of your servant, and lodge, and wash your feet -- then ye have risen early and gone on your way;' and they say, 'Nay, but in the broad place we do lodge.'
Behold, I have two daughters which have known no man; them will I bring out unto you: do with them as it seemeth you good: Only unto these men do nothing, for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof."
And they say, 'Come nigh hither;' they say also, 'This one hath come in to sojourn, and he certainly judgeth! now, we do evil to thee more than to them;' and they press against the man, against Lot greatly, and come nigh to break the door.
So now return the man’s wife, for he is a prophet, and he will pray for you and you will live. But if you do not return her [to him], know that you shall die, you and all who are yours (your household).”
And Abimelech said to Abraham, Why did you do this thing?
God said to Abraham, “Do not let it distress you because of Ishmael and your maid; whatever Sarah tells you, listen to her and do what she asks, for your descendants will be named through Isaac.
Now at that time Abimelech and Phicol, the commander of his army, said to Abraham, “God is with you in everything you do;
Therefore swear an oath here by God that you won't deal falsely with me, my sons, or my descendants. Just as I've dealt graciously with you, won't you do so with me and with the land in which you live as a foreigner?"
And Abimelech said, I do not know who has done this, neither hast thou told me of it, neither have I heard of it but to-day.
Abraham said to him, “See to it that you do not take my son back there!
and setteth before him to eat; but he saith, 'I do not eat till I have spoken my word;' and he saith, 'Speak.'
I came this day to the spring, and said, 'Yahweh, the God of my master Abraham, if now you do prosper my way which I go --
Isaac said, “See here, I am old;
and make for me tasteful things, such as I have loved, and bring in to me, and I do eat, so that my soul doth bless thee before I die.'
Bring for me provision, and make for me tasteful things, and I do eat, and bless thee before Jehovah before my death.
And he saith, 'Bring nigh to me, and I do eat of my son's provision, so that my soul doth bless thee;' and he bringeth nigh to him, and he eateth; and he bringeth to him wine, and he drinketh.
And Isaac answered and said unto Esau, Behold, I have made him thy lord, and all his brethren have I given to him for servants; and with corn and wine have I sustained him: and what shall I do now unto thee, my son?
And he said to them, Do ye know Laban the son of Nahor? And they said, We do know him.
And Laban said, In our country we do not let the younger daughter be married before the older.
Now Rachel, because she had no children, was full of envy of her sister; and she said to Jacob, If you do not give me children I will not go on living.
But Laban said to him, “If I have found favor in your sight, stay with me; for I have learned [from the omens in divination and by experience] that the Lord has blessed me because of you.”
Indeed, you had little before I arrived, but now your possessions have increased many times over. The Lord has blessed you wherever I worked. But now, how long must it be before I do something for my own family too?"
Laban asked, “What should I give you?”
And Jacob said, “You don’t need to give me anything. If you do this one thing for me, I will continue to shepherd and keep your flock.
Jacob responded, "You don't have to give me anything. Just do this for me: Let me tend your flock again and watch over it. Let me walk among your flocks today and remove every speckled or spotted sheep, along with every black lamb, and let me do the same with the speckled and spotted goats. These will be my wages.
Surely all the riches which God has taken from our father are ours and our children’s. Now then, whatever God has told you to do, do it.”
God came to Laban the Aramean in a dream at night and said to him, “Be careful that you do not speak to Jacob, either good or bad.”
Then Laban asked Jacob, "What did you do? You deceived me, carried off my daughters like you would war captives,

Go on living with us, and the country will be open to you; do trade and get property there.
But we will consent to you only on this condition: if you will become like us, in that every male among you consents to be circumcised,
But if ye do not hearken to us, to be circumcised, then will we take our daughter and go away.
If we do so, won't their livestock, their property, and all their animals become ours? So let's consent to their demand, so they will live among us."
And he returned to his brothers and said, "The boy {is gone}! Now I, {what can I do}?"
Then Judah said to his daughter-in-law Tamar, "Live as a widow in your father's house until Shelah my son grows up." For he thought, "I don't want him to die like his brothers." So Tamar went and lived in her father's house.
But he would not, and said to her, You see that my master keeps no account of what I do in his house, and has put all his property in my control;

and thou hast spoken unto him, and hast set the words in his mouth, and I -- I am with thy mouth, and with his mouth, and have directed you that which ye do;
The Lord said to Moses, “When you return to Egypt, see that you perform before Pharaoh all the wonders (miracles) which I have put in your hand, but I will harden his heart and make him stubborn so that he will not let the people go.
And Pharaoh said, Who is Jehovah, to whose voice I am to hearken to let Israel go? I do not know Jehovah, neither will I let Israel go.
Ye do not add to give straw to the people for the making of the bricks, as heretofore -- they go and have gathered straw for themselves;
and the proper quantity of the bricks which they are making heretofore ye do put on them, ye do not diminish from it, for they are remiss, therefore they are crying, saying, Let us go, let us sacrifice to our God;
And the exactors of the people, and its authorities, go out, and speak unto the people, saying, 'Thus said Pharaoh, I do not give you straw,
But he said, Ye are idle, ye are idle: therefore ye say, Let us go and do sacrifice to the LORD.
