'Praise' in the Bible
O Lord, You are my God;I will exalt You, I will praise and give thanks to Your name; For You have done miraculous things,Plans formed long, long ago, [fulfilled] with perfect faithfulness.
“For Sheol cannot praise or thank You,Death cannot praise You and rejoice in You;Those who go down to the pit cannot hope for Your faithfulness.
“It is the living who give praise and thanks to You, as I do today;A father tells his sons about Your faithfulness.
“I am the Lord, that is My Name;My glory I will not give to another,Nor My praise to carved idols.
Sing to the Lord a new song,Sing His praise from the end of the earth! You who go down to the sea, and all that is in it,You islands and coastlands, and those who inhabit them [sing His praise]!
Let them give glory to the LordAnd declare His praise in the islands and coastlands.
“The people whom I formed for MyselfWill make known My praise.
“For the sake of My Name I refrain from My wrath,And for My praise I restrain Myself from you,So that I do not cut you off.
For the Lord will comfort Zion [in her captivity];He will comfort all her ruins. And He will make her wilderness like Eden,And her desert like the garden of the Lord;Joy and gladness will be found in her,Thanksgiving and the voice of a melody.
“Instead of the thorn bush the cypress tree will grow,And instead of the nettle the myrtle tree will grow; And it will be a memorial to the Lord,For an everlasting sign [of His mercy] which will not be cut off.”
As I create the praise of his lips,Peace, peace, to him who is far away [both Jew and Gentile] and to him who is near!”Says the Lord;“And I will heal him [making his lips blossom anew with thankful praise].”
“Violence will not be heard again in your land,Nor devastation or destruction within your borders; But you will call your walls Salvation, and your gates Praise [to God].
To grant to those who mourn in Zion the following:To give them a turban instead of dust [on their heads, a sign of mourning],The oil of joy instead of mourning,The garment [expressive] of praise instead of a disheartened spirit. So they will be called the trees of righteousness [strong and magnificent, distinguished for integrity, justice, and right standing with God],The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.
For as the earth brings forth its sprouts,And as a garden causes what is sown in it to spring up,So the Lord God will [most certainly] cause righteousness and justice and praiseTo spring up before all the nations [through the power of His word].
And give Him no rest [from your prayers] until He establishes JerusalemAnd makes her a praise on the earth.
But they who have harvested it will eat it and praise the Lord,And they who have gathered it will drink it [at the feasts celebrated] in the courtyards of My sanctuary.
