'Says' in the Bible

They said therefore to him, Where is he? He says, I do not know.

Then after this he says to his disciples, Let us go into Judaea again.

These things said he; and after this he says to them, Lazarus, our friend, is fallen asleep, but I go that I may awake him out of sleep.

Jesus says, Take away the stone. Martha, the sister of the dead, says to him, Lord, he stinks already, for he is four days there.

And the dead came forth, bound feet and hands with graveclothes, and his face was bound round with a handkerchief. Jesus says to them, Loose him and let him go.

And I have knowledge that his order is eternal life: so that the things which I say, I say them even as the Father says them to me.

He comes therefore to Simon Peter; and he says to him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet?

Peter says to him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, Unless I wash thee, thou hast not part with me.

Simon Peter says to him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.

Jesus says to him, He that is washed all over needs not to wash save his feet, but is wholly clean; and ye are clean, but not all.

I am not speaking of all of you. I know whom I have chosen, but things are as they are in order that the Scripture may be fulfilled, which says, 'He who eats my bread has lifted up his heel against me.'

But he, leaning on the breast of Jesus, says to him, Lord, who is it?

And, after the morsel, then entered Satan into him. Jesus therefore says to him, What thou doest, do quickly.

When therefore he was gone out Jesus says, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him.

Simon Peter says to him, Lord, where goest thou? Jesus answered him, Where I go thou canst not follow me now, but thou shalt follow me after.

Thomas says to him, Lord, we know not where thou goest, and how can we know the way?

Philip says to him, Lord, shew us the Father and it suffices us.

Judas, not the Iscariote, says to him, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself to us and not to the world?

Some of his disciples therefore said to one another, What is this he says to us, A little while and ye do not behold me; and again a little while and ye shall see me, and, Because I go away to the Father?

They said therefore, What is this which he says of the little while? We do not know of what he speaks.

They answered him, Jesus the Nazaraean. Jesus says to them, I am he. And Judas also, who delivered him up, stood with them.

The maid therefore, who was porteress, says to Peter, Art thou also of the disciples of this man? He says, I am not.

One of the bondmen of the high priest, who was kinsman of him whose ear Peter cut off, says, Did not I see thee in the garden with him?

Pilate says to him, What is truth? And having said this he went out again to the Jews, and says to them, I find no fault whatever in him.

And Pilate went out again and says to them, Lo, I bring him out to you, that ye may know that I find in him no fault whatever.

(Jesus therefore went forth without, wearing the crown of thorn, and the purple robe.) And he says to them, Behold the man!

When therefore the chief priests and the officers saw him they cried out saying, Crucify, crucify him. Pilate says to them, Take him ye and crucify him, for I find no fault in him.

and went into the praetorium again and says to Jesus, Whence art thou? But Jesus gave him no answer.

Pilate therefore says to him, Speakest thou not to me? Dost thou not know that I have authority to release thee and have authority to crucify thee?

(now it was the preparation of the passover; it was about the sixth hour;) and he says to the Jews, Behold your king!

But they cried out, Take him away, take him away, crucify him. Pilate says to them, Shall I crucify your king? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar.

So they said to one another, “Let’s not tear it, but cast lots for it, to see who gets it.” They did this to fulfill the Scripture that says: They divided My clothes among themselves, and they cast lots for My clothing. And this is what the soldiers did.

Jesus therefore, seeing his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, says to his mother, Woman, behold thy son.

Then he says unto the disciple, Behold thy mother. And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home.

And he who saw it bears witness, and his witness is true, and he knows that he says true that ye also may believe.

Also, another Scripture says: They will look at the One they pierced.

She runs therefore and comes to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, to whom Jesus was attached, and says to them, They have taken away the Lord out of the tomb, and we know not where they have laid him.

And they say to her, Woman, why dost thou weep? She says to them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.

Jesus says to her, Woman, why dost thou weep? Whom seekest thou? She, supposing that it was the gardener, says to him, Sir, if thou hast borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.

Jesus says to her, Mary. She, turning round, says to him in Hebrew, Rabboni, which means Teacher.

When therefore it was evening on that day, which was the first day of the week, and the doors shut where the disciples were, through fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and says to them, Peace be to you.

Simon Peter says to them, I go to fish. They say to him, We also come with thee. They went forth, and went on board, and that night took nothing.

Jesus therefore says to them, Children, have ye anything to eat? They answered him, No.

That disciple therefore whom Jesus loved says to Peter, It is the Lord. Simon Peter therefore, having heard that it was the Lord, girded his overcoat on him (for he was naked), and cast himself into the sea;

Jesus says to them, Bring of the fishes which ye have now taken.

Jesus says to them, Come and dine. But none of the disciples dared inquire of him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord.

When therefore they had dined, Jesus says to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He says to him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I am attached to thee. He says to him, Feed my lambs.

He says to him again a second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He says to him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I am attached to thee. He says to him, Shepherd my sheep.

He says to him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, art thou attached to me? Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, Art thou attached to me? and said to him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I am attached to thee. Jesus says to him, Feed my sheep.

For in the book of Psalms it says, Let his house be waste, and let no man be living in it: and, Let his position be taken by another.

And it will be in the last days, says God,that I will pour out My Spirit on all humanity;then your sons and your daughters will prophesy,your young men will see visions,and your old men will dream dreams.

For David says of Him:I saw the Lord ever before me;because He is at my right hand,I will not be shaken.

For it was not David who ascended into the heavens, but he himself says:The Lord declared to my Lord,‘Sit at My right hand

Moses said, ‘The Lord God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your brethren; to Him you shall give heed to everything He says to you.

But God was turned from them and let them give worship to the stars of heaven, as it says in the book of the prophets, Did you make offerings to me of sheep and oxen for forty years in the waste land, O house of Israel?

However, the Most High does not dwell in sanctuaries made with hands, as the prophet says:

And as they went along the way, they came upon a certain water, and the eunuch says, Behold water; what hinders my being baptised?

And the angel said to him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And he did so. And he says to him, Cast thine upper garment about thee and follow me.

Which God has now put into effect for our children, by sending Jesus; as it says in the second Psalm, You are my Son; this day I have given you being.

Therefore He also says in another passage, You will not allow Your Holy One to see decay.

For such is the Lord's command to us. "'I have placed Thee,' He says of Christ, 'as a light to the Gentiles, in order that Thou mayest be a Saviour as far as the remotest parts of the earth.'"

And this is in harmony with the language of the Prophets, which says:

so the rest of humanitymay seek the Lord—even all the Gentileswho are called by My name,declares the Lord who does these things,

Says the Lord, who makes these things known from long ago.

He came to us, took Paul’s belt, tied his own feet and hands, and said, “This is what the Holy Spirit says: ‘In this way the Jews in Jerusalem will bind the man who owns this belt and deliver him into Gentile hands.’”

But as he was about to be led into the fortress, Paul says to the chiliarch, Is it allowed me to say something to thee? And he said, Dost thou know Greek?

And hearing that he addressed them in the Hebrew tongue, they kept the more quiet; and he says,

Paul said, “I was not aware, brothers, that he was high priest; for it is written, ‘You shall not speak evil of a ruler of your people.’”

He therefore, having taken him with him, led him to the chiliarch, and says, The prisoner Paul called me to him and asked me to lead this youth to thee, who has something to say to thee.

Let therefore the persons of authority among you, says he, going down too, if there be anything in this man, accuse him.

And as he answered for his defence with these things, Festus says with a loud voice, Thou art mad, Paul; much learning turns thee to madness.

The one who says not to commit adultery, do you commit adultery? The one who abhors idols, do you rob temples?

Now we know that whatever the law says speaks to those who are subject to the law, so that every mouth may be shut and the whole world may become subject to God’s judgment.

For what says the Scripture? "And Abraham believed God, and this was placed to his credit as righteousness."

As David says that there is a blessing on the man to whose account God puts righteousness without works, saying,

"Blessed," he says, "are those whose iniquities have been forgiven, and whose sins have been covered over.
