1 And the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain on mount Gilboa.

1 The Philistines(A) fought against Israel, and Israel’s men fled from them and were killed on Mount Gilboa.
1 The Philistines were fighting against Israel, and each soldier of Israel fled before the Philistines. They fell slain on the mountain of Gilboa.
2 And the Philistines followed hard after Saul and after his sons; and the Philistines smote Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi-shua, Saul's sons.
2 The Philistines closely pursued Saul and his sons, and the Philistines struck down Jonathan, (a)(B)Abinadab and Malchi-shua, the sons of Saul.

4 Then said Saul to his armour-bearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through with it; lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me. But his armour-bearer would not; for he was much afraid. So Saul took the sword and fell on it.

13 And Saul died for his unfaithfulness which he committed against Jehovah, because of the word of Jehovah which he kept not, and also for having inquired of the spirit of Python, asking counsel of it;
13 (G)So Saul died for his trespass which he committed against the Lord, because of the word of the Lord which he did not keep; and also (H)because he asked counsel of a medium, making inquiry of it,
13 So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to inquire of it;
13 Saul died for his unfaithfulness to the Lord because he did not keep the Lord’s word.(D) He even consulted a medium for guidance,(E)
13 So Saul died for his transgressions; that is, he acted unfaithfully to the LORD by transgressing the message from the LORD (which he did not keep), by consulting a medium for advice,
14 and he asked not counsel of Jehovah; therefore he slew him, and transferred the kingdom to David the son of Jesse.
14 and did not inquire of the Lord. Therefore He killed him and (I)turned the kingdom to David the son of Jesse.
14 And inquired not of the LORD: therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse.
14 but he did not inquire of the Lord. So the Lord put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David son of Jesse.(F)
14 and by not seeking counsel from the LORD, who therefore put him to death and turned the kingdom over to Jesse's son David.
