David Defeats The Philistines
8 And the rovers will hear that David was anointed for king over all Israel, and all the rovers will come up to seek David. And David will hear and he will go forth before them.
8 And when the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David. And David heard of it, and went out against them.
8 When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up in search of David; and David heard of it and went out against them.
8 When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over all Israel, they all went in search of David; when David heard of this, he went out to face them.
8 When the Philistines learned that David had been anointed king over all of Israel, all of the Philistines invaded to look for David. David heard about it and went out to fight them.
10 And David will ask in God, saying, Shall I go up against the rovers? and gavest thou them into my hand? and Jehovah will say to him, Go up; and I gave them into thy hand.
10 And David inquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? and wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the LORD said unto him, Go up; for I will deliver them into thine hand.
10 David inquired of God, saying, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? And will You give them into my hand?” Then the Lord said to him, “Go up, for I will give them into your hand.”
10 so David inquired of God, “Should I go to war against the Philistines? Will You hand them over to me?”The Lord replied, “Go, and I will hand them over to you.”
10 So David asked God, "Am I to go out against the Philistines? Will you give me victory over them?" "Go out," the LORD replied to him, "and I'll put them right into your hand."
11 And they will go up to the master of breaches, and David. will strike them there. And David will say, God broke forth upon mine enemies by my hand as the breaking forth of waters: for this they called the name of that place, The Master of the Breaches.
11 So they came up to Baalperazim; and David smote them there. Then David said, God hath broken in upon mine enemies by mine hand like the breaking forth of waters: therefore they called the name of that place Baalperazim.
11 So they came up to Baal-perazim, and David (c)defeated them there; and David said, “God has broken through my enemies by my hand, like the breakthrough of waters.” Therefore they named that place (d)Baal-perazim.
11 So the Israelites went up to Baal-perazim, and David defeated the Philistines there. Then David said, “Like a bursting flood, God has used me to burst out against my enemies.” Therefore, they named that place the Lord Bursts Out.(a)
11 So David went out to Baal-perazim and defeated the Philistines there. David observed, "Like an overwhelming flood, God has overwhelmed my enemies, using me to do it." That's why that place is called Baal-perazim.
12 And they will leave their gods there, and David will say, and they will burn in fire.
12 And when they had left their gods there, David gave a commandment, and they were burned with fire.
12 They abandoned their gods there; so David gave the order and they were burned with fire.
12 The Philistines abandoned their idols there, and David ordered that they be burned in the fire.
12 The Philistines abandoned their gods there, so David ordered that their idols be incinerated.
14 And David will yet ask in God: and God will say to him, Thou shalt not go up after them; turn about from off them, and go to them from the front of the weepings.
14 Therefore David inquired again of God; and God said unto him, Go not up after them; turn away from them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees.
14 David inquired again of God, and God said to him, “You shall not go up after them; circle around (e)behind them and come at them in front of the (f)balsam trees.
14 So David again inquired of God, and God answered him, “Do not pursue them directly. Circle around them and attack them opposite the balsam trees.
14 When David asked God about it, God told him, "Don't directly attack them. Instead, go around them and come up against them opposite those balsam trees.
15 And it will be in thy hearing a voice of the goings in the heads of the weepings, then thou shall go forth in war: for God will go forth before thee to strike the camp of the rovers.
15 And it shall be, when thou shalt hear a sound of going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt go out to battle: for God is gone forth before thee to smite the host of the Philistines.
15 It shall be when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, then you shall go out to battle, for God will have gone out before you to strike the army of the Philistines.”
15 When you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, then march out to battle, for God will have marched out ahead of you to attack the camp of the Philistines.”
15 When you hear the sound of marching coming from the tops of the balsam trees, then go out to battle, because God will have gone out ahead of you to destroy the Philistine army."
16 And David will do as Jehovah commanded him: and they will strike the camp of the rovers from Gibeon even to Gaza.
16 David therefore did as God commanded him: and they smote the host of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gazer.
16 David did just as God had commanded him, and they struck down the army of the Philistines from (g)Gibeon even as far as Gezer.
16 So David did exactly as God commanded him, and they struck down the Philistine army from Gibeon to Gezer.
16 So David did just as God had ordered, and they struck down the Philistine army from Gibeon to Gezer.
17 And the name of David will go forth into all lands; and Jehovah gave his fear upon all the nations..
17 And the fame of David went out into all lands; and the LORD brought the fear of him upon all nations.
17 Then the fame of David went out into all the lands; and (E)the Lord brought the fear of him on all the nations.
17 Then David’s fame spread throughout the lands, and the Lord caused all the nations to be terrified of him.(D)
17 Then David's reputation spread through all of the neighboring countries, and the LORD caused all nations to be afraid of David.
