Lawsuits Between Believers

1 Dare any of you, having, a matter against his brother, sue for judgment before the unrighteous, and not before the saints?

1 Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unjust, and not before the saints?

1 Does any one of you, when he has a (a)case against his neighbor, dare to go to law before the unrighteous and (A)not before the (b)saints?

1 If any of you has a legal dispute against another, do you dare go to court(A) before the unrighteous,(a) and not before the saints?

1 When one of you has a complaint against another, does he dare to take the matter before those who are unrighteous and not before the saints?

2 Or know ye not that, the saints, shall judge the world? And, if, by you, the world, is to be judged, unworthy are ye of the smallest judgment-seats?

2 Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?

2 Or (B)do you not know that (C)the (c)saints will judge (D)the world? If the world is judged by you, are you not competent to (d)constitute the smallest law courts?

2 Or don’t you know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world is judged by you, are you unworthy to judge the smallest cases?

2 You know that the saints will rule the world, don't you? And if the world is going to be ruled by you, can't you handle insignificant cases?

3 Know ye not that we shall judge, messengers? and not, then, matters of this life?

3 Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?

3 (E)Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more matters of this life?

3 Don’t you know that we will judge angels—not to mention ordinary matters?

3 You know that we will rule angels, not to mention things in this life, don't you?

4 If, then, for matters of this, life ye have judgment-seats, them who are of no account in the assembly, these, are ye seating thereupon?

4 If then ye have judgments of things pertaining to this life, set them to judge who are least esteemed in the church.

4 So if you have law courts dealing with matters of this life, (e)do you appoint them as judges who are of no account in the church?

4 So if you have cases pertaining to this life, do you select those(b) who have no standing(B) in the church to judge?

4 So if you have cases dealing with this life, why do you appoint as judges people who have no standing in the church?

5 With a view to shame you, am I speaking. So, is it possible that there is among you - not so much as one wise man, who shall be able to judge between his brethren, -

5 I speak to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you? no, not one that shall be able to judge between his brethren?

5 (F)I say this to your shame. Is it so, that there is not among you one wise man who will be able to decide between his (G)brethren,

5 I say this to your shame!(C) Can it be that there is not one wise person among you who is able to arbitrate between his brothers?(D)

5 I say this to make you feel ashamed. Has it come to this, that there is not one person among you who is wise enough to settle disagreements between brothers?

6 But, brother with brother, sueth for judgment, and that before unbelievers?

6 But brother goeth to law with brother, and that before the unbelievers.

6 but brother goes to law with brother, and that before (H)unbelievers?

6 Instead, believer(c) goes to court against believer, and that before unbelievers!(E)

6 Instead, one brother goes to court against another brother, and before unbelieving judges, at that!

7 Already, indeed, it is an utter defeat for you, that ye are having, law-suits, one with another. Wherefore are ye not rather taking wrong? Wherefore are ye not rather suffering yourselves to be defrauded?

7 Now therefore there is utterly a fault among you, because ye go to law one with another. Why do ye not rather take wrong? why do ye not rather suffer yourselves to be defrauded?

7 Actually, then, it is already a defeat for you, that you have lawsuits with one another. (I)Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be defrauded?

7 Therefore, to have legal disputes against one another is already a moral failure for you.(F) Why not rather put up with injustice?(G) Why not rather be cheated?(H)

7 The very fact that you have lawsuits among yourselves is already a defeat for you. Why not rather just accept the wrong? Why not rather be cheated?

8 Nay! but, ye, are doing wrong, and defrauding, - and that your brethren.

8 Nay, ye do wrong, and defraud, and that your brethren.

8 On the contrary, you yourselves wrong and defraud. You do this even to your (J)brethren.

8 Instead, you act unjustly and cheat—and you do this to believers!

8 Instead, you yourselves practice doing wrong and cheating others, and brothers at that!

9 Or know ye not that, wrong-doers, shall not inherit, God's kingdom? Be not deceiving yourselves: - neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor sodomites,

9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,

9 Or (K)do you not know that the unrighteous will not (L)inherit the kingdom of God? (M)Do not be deceived; (N)neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor (f)effeminate, nor homosexuals,

9 Don’t you know that the unrighteous(I) will not inherit God’s kingdom?(J) Do not be deceived: No sexually immoral people, idolaters,(K) adulterers,(L) or anyone practicing homosexuality,(d)(M)

9 You know that wicked people will not inherit the kingdom of God, don't you? Stop deceiving yourselves! Sexually immoral people, idolaters, adulterers, male prostitutes, homosexuals,

10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners - shall inherit, God's kingdom.

10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

10 nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will (O)inherit the kingdom of God.

10 no thieves,(N) greedy(O) people, drunkards, verbally abusive people,(P) or swindlers(Q) will inherit God’s kingdom.

10 thieves, greedy people, drunks, slanderers, and robbers will not inherit the kingdom of God.

11 And, these things, were some of you; but ye bathed them away, - but ye were sanctified, but ye were justified, in the name of ourLord Jesus Christ, and in the Spirit of our God.

11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

11 (P)Such were some of you; but you were (Q)washed, but you were (R)sanctified, but you were (S)justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.

11 And some of you used to be like this.(R) But you were washed, you were sanctified,(S) you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

11 That is what some of you were! But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of our Lord Jesus the Messiah and by the Spirit of our God.

Avoid Sexual Immorality

12 All things, unto me, are allowable, but, not all things, are profitable: all things, unto me, are allowable, but, I, will not be brought under authority by any.

12 All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.

12 (T)All things are lawful for me, but not all things are profitable. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be mastered by anything.

12 “Everything is permissible(T) for me,”(e) but not everything is helpful. “Everything is permissible for me,” but I will not be brought under the control of anything.

12 Everything is permissible for me, but not everything is helpful. Everything is permissible for me, but I will not allow anything to control me.

13 Foods for the belly, and the belly for foods; but, God, will set aside, both it and them. The body, however, is not for fornication, but, for the Lord, - and, the Lord, for the body.

13 Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body.

13 (U)Food is for the (g)stomach and the (h)stomach is for food, but God will (V)do away with both (i)of them. Yet the body is not for immorality, but (W)for the Lord, and (X)the Lord is for the body.

13 “Food(U) for the stomach and the stomach for food,” but God will do away with both of them.(f) The body is not for sexual immorality(V) but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.

13 Food is for the stomach, and the stomach is for food, but God will make them both unnecessary. The body is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.

14 God, moreover, hath both raised up, the Lord, and will raise, us, up from among the dead through his power.

14 And God hath both raised up the Lord, and will also raise up us by his own power.

14 Now God has not only (Y)raised the Lord, but (Z)will also raise us up through His power.

14 God raised up the Lord and will also raise us up by His power.(W)

14 God raised the Lord, and by his power he will also raise us.

15 Know ye not that, your bodies, are, members of Christ? Shall I, then, take away the members of the Christ and make them members of a harlot? Far be it!

15 Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid.

15 (AA)Do you not know that (AB)your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take away the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? (AC)May it never be!

15 Don’t you know that your bodies are a part of Christ’s body?(X) So should I take a part of Christ’s body and make it part of a prostitute? Absolutely not!

15 You know that your bodies belong to the Messiah, don't you? Should I take what belongs to the Messiah and unite them with a prostitute? Certainly not!

16 Or know ye not that, he that joineth himself unto the harlot, is, one body? For, saith he, the two, shall become, one flesh;

16 What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh.

16 Or (AD)do you not know that the one who joins himself to a prostitute is one body with her? For He says, “(AE)The two shall become one flesh.”

16 Don’t you know that anyone joined to a prostitute is one body with her? For Scripture says, The two will become one flesh.(Y)(g)

16 You know that the person who unites himself with a prostitute becomes one body with her, don't you? For it is said, "The two will become one flesh."

17 But, he that joineth himself unto the Lord, is, one Spirit.

17 But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.

17 But the one who joins himself to the Lord is (AF)one spirit with Him.

17 But anyone joined(Z) to the Lord is one spirit(AA) with Him.

17 But the person who unites himself with the Lord becomes one spirit with him.

18 Flee fornication! Every sin, whatsoever a man shall commit, is, outside his body, but, he that committeth fornication, bringeth sin into his own body.

18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.

18 (AG)Flee immorality. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the (j)immoral man sins against his own body.

18 Run(AB) from sexual immorality! “Every sin a person can commit is outside the body.”(h) On the contrary, the person who is sexually immoral(AC) sins against his own body.

18 Keep on running away from sexual immorality. Any other sin that a person commits is outside his body, but the person who sins sexually sins against his own body.

19 Or know ye not that, your body, is, a shrine of the Holy Spirit that is within you, which ye have from God? And ye are not your own; -

19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

19 Or (AH)do you not know that (AI)your body is a (k)temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from (l)God, and that (AJ)you are not your own?

19 Don’t you know that your body is a sanctuary(AD) of the Holy Spirit(AE) who is in you,(AF) whom you have from God? You are not your own,

19 You know that your body is a sanctuary of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have received from God, don't you? You do not belong to yourselves,

20 For ye have been bought with a price! Therefore glorify God in your body.

20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

20 For (AK)you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in (AL)your body.

20 for you were bought(AG) at a price. Therefore glorify God in your body.(i)

20 because you were bought for a price. Therefore, glorify God with your bodies.
