Give therefore

May Jehovah give you discretion and understanding when he puts you in command over Israel, so that you may keep the law of Jehovah your God.

Give my son Solomon a wholehearted desire to obey everything that you command and to build the Temple for which I have made these preparations.

Please give me the wisdom and knowledge I need to rule over them. Otherwise, how would I ever be able to rule this great people of yours?

Give me understanding, that I may observe your law and keep it with all my heart.

Call out for insight. Lift up your voice for understanding.

How blessed is the man who finds wisdom. Happy is the man who gains understanding.

How much better to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding instead of silver!

If any of you lacks wisdom let him ask of God. He gives to all generously and without reproach and it will be given to him.

But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable (yielding), full of mercy and good fruits, without discord (partiality), without hypocrisy.

To judge

The people of Israel heard of Solomon's decision and were all filled with deep respect for him. They knew then that God had given him the wisdom to settle disputes fairly.

([Prayers of David]) O God, give the king your justice. Give your righteousness to the royal son.

The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way. The folly of fools is deception.

Wisdom is good as an inheritance: It is an advantage to those who see the sun.

Now there was found in it a poor wise man. By his wisdom he delivered the city. Yet no man remembered that same poor man.

I can do nothing by myself. So I hear and judge and my judgment is righteous. I do not seek my own will, but the will of him that sent me.

Who is able

But Moses said: Who am I to go to Pharaoh and lead your people out of Egypt?

Moses said: O Jehovah I am not a man of words. I have never been so, and am not now, even after what you have said to your servant. Talking is hard for me, and I am slow of tongue.

I, Jeremiah, said: Lord Jehovah, I do not know how to speak. I am only a child!

I baptize you with water because of your repentance. He that comes after me is mightier than I. He will baptize you with Holy Spirit and fire. I am not even good enough to carry his sandals.

To the one an aroma of death leading to death and to the other an aroma from life to life. And who is sufficient for these things?

We are not adequate by ourselves to account for anything. Our adequacy is from God.

I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you. I will make your name great. You will be a blessing.

But Moses said: Who am I to go to Pharaoh and lead your people out of Egypt?

How can I alone bear your encumbrance, your burden, and your strife?

Where can wisdom be found? Where is the place of understanding?

To know wisdom and instruction. To discern and understand words.

The mind of the prudent acquires knowledge. The ear of the wise one searches for knowledge.
