Summary

Thou knowest how that David my father could not build an house unto the name of the LORD his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until the LORD put them under the soles of his feet.

Could not

Go tell my servant David that I say to him: 'You are not the one to build a temple for me to live in.
He also provided more cedar logs than could be counted. The Sidonians and Tyrians had brought large numbers of them to David.
Now I have chosen Jerusalem to be a place for my name. I have chosen David to rule my people Israel.

The wars

The word of Jehovah came to me, saying: 'You have shed much blood and have fought many wars. You are not to build a house for my name. This is because you have shed much blood on the earth in my sight.
However God told me: 'You must not build the Temple for my name because you have fought wars and caused bloodshed.'

Put

When they brought out the kings to Joshua, Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said to the captains of the men of war who went with him: Come near, put your feet on the back of the necks of (humiliate) (abase) these kings. They came near, and put their feet upon their necks.
You made him rule what your hands created. You have put everything under his control:
([Psalm of David]) Jehovah said to my Lord: Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.
When I act you will tread down the wicked. They will be like dust under your feet, Jehovah of Hosts said.
For he (Christ) must rule as king until he (God) puts all enemies under his feet (his control). (Psalm 2; 110) (Daniel 2:44) (Revelation 5:10; 20:6)
He (God) put all things in subjection under his feet, and made him head over all things to the congregation,
