Hannah's Triumphant Prayer
1 Hannah prayed, and said: "My heart exults in the LORD. My horn is exalted in the LORD. My mouth is enlarged over my enemies, because I rejoice in your salvation.
1 And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoiceth in the LORD, mine horn is exalted in the LORD: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation.
1 Then Hannah (A)prayed and said,“My heart exults in the Lord;(B)My (a)horn is exalted in the Lord,My mouth (b)speaks boldly against my enemies,Because (C)I rejoice in Your salvation.
1 Hannah prayed:(A)My heart rejoices in the Lord;(B)my horn is lifted up by the Lord.My mouth boasts over my enemies, because I rejoice in Your salvation.(C)
1 Then Hannah prayed: "My heart exults in the LORD; my strength is increased by the LORD. I will open my mouth to speak against my enemies, because I rejoice in your deliverance.
2 There is no one as holy as the LORD, For there is no one besides you, nor is there any rock like our God.
2 There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God.
2 “(D)There is no one holy like the Lord,Indeed, (E)there is no one besides You,(F)Nor is there any rock like our God.
2 There is no one holy like the Lord.(D)There is no one besides You!(E)And there is no rock like our God.(F)
2 Indeed, there is no one holy like the LORD, indeed, there is no one besides you, there is no rock like our God.
3 "Talk no more so exceeding proudly. Do not let arrogance come out of your mouth, For the LORD is a God of knowledge. By him actions are weighed.
3 Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: for the LORD is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.
3 “(c)Boast no more so very proudly,(G)Do not let arrogance come out of your mouth;(H)For the Lord is a God of knowledge,(I)And with Him actions are weighed.
3 Do not boast so proudly,or let arrogant words come out of your mouth, for the Lord is a God of knowledge, and actions are weighed by Him.(G)
3 Don't continue to talk proudly, and don't speak arrogantly, for the LORD is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.
5 Those who were full have hired themselves out for bread. Those who were hungry are satisfied. Even the barren has borne seven, and she who has many children languishes.
5 They that were full have hired out themselves for bread; and they that were hungry ceased: so that the barren hath born seven; and she that hath many children is waxed feeble.
5 “Those who were full hire themselves out for bread,But those who were hungry cease to hunger.(L)Even the barren gives birth to seven,But (M)she who has many children languishes.
5 Those who are full hire themselves out for food, but those who are starving hunger no more. The woman who is childless gives birth to seven,(J)but the woman with many sons pines away.(K)
5 Those who had an abundance of bread now hire themselves out, and those who were hungry hunger no more. While the barren woman gives birth to seven children, she who had many children languishes.
8 He raises up the poor out of the dust. He lifts up the needy from the dunghill, To make them sit with princes, and inherit the throne of glory. For the pillars of the earth are the LORD's. He has set the world on them.
8 He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORD'S, and he hath set the world upon them.
8 “(R)He raises the poor from the dust,(S)He lifts the needy from the ash heap(T)To make them sit with nobles,And inherit a seat of honor;(U)For the pillars of the earth are the Lord’s,And He set the world on them.
8 He raises the poor from the dust(P)and lifts the needy from the garbage pile.(Q)He seats them with noblemen(R)and gives them a throne of honor.(a)For the foundations of the earth are the Lord’s;(S)He has set the world on them.(T)
8 He raises the poor up from the dust, he lifts up the needy from the trash heap to make them sit with princes and inherit a seat of honor. Indeed the pillars of the earth belong to the LORD, and he has set the world on them.
9 He will keep the feet of his holy ones, but the wicked shall be put to silence in darkness. For no man shall prevail by strength.
9 He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail.
9 “(V)He keeps the feet of His godly ones,(W)But the wicked ones are silenced in darkness;(X)For not by might shall a man prevail.
9 He guards the steps(b) of His faithful ones,(U)but the wicked perish in darkness,(V)for a man does not prevail by his own strength.(W)
9 He guards the steps of his faithful ones, while the wicked are made silent in darkness. He grants the request of the one who prays. He blesses the year of the righteous. Indeed it's not by strength that a person prevails.
10 Those who strive with the LORD shall be broken to pieces. He will thunder against them in the sky. "The LORD will judge the ends of the earth. He will give strength to his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed."
10 The adversaries of the LORD shall be broken to pieces; out of heaven shall he thunder upon them: the LORD shall judge the ends of the earth; and he shall give strength unto his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed.
10 “(Y)Those who contend with the Lord will be shattered;(Z)Against them He will thunder in the heavens,(AA)The Lord will judge the ends of the earth;(AB)And He will give strength to His king,(AC)And will exalt the (e)horn of His anointed.”
10 Those who oppose the Lord will be shattered;(c)(X)He will thunder in the heavens against them.(Y)The Lord will judge the ends of the earth.(Z)He will give power to His king;He will lift up the horn of His anointed.(AA)
10 The LORD will shatter his enemies those who contend against him. Who is holy? The one who will thunder against them in the heavens. The LORD will judge the ends of the earth, he will give strength to his king, and he will increase the strength of His anointed one."
Eli's Evil Sons

11 And Elkanah went to Ramah to his house. And the child did minister unto the LORD before Eli the priest.
11 Then Elkanah went to his home at (AD)Ramah. (AE)But the boy ministered to the Lord before Eli the priest.
11 Elkanah went home to Ramah,(AB) but the boy served the Lord in the presence of Eli the priest.(AC)
11 Then Elkanah went to his house at Ramah, while the boy was ministering to the LORD in the presence of Eli the priest.
The Family Of Eli The Priest
13 The custom of the priests with the people was that when any man offered sacrifice, the priest's servant came, while the flesh was boiling, with a fork of three teeth in his hand;
13 And the priests' custom with the people was, that, when any man offered sacrifice, the priest's servant came, while the flesh was in seething, with a fleshhook of three teeth in his hand;
13 (AG)and the custom of the priests with the people. When any man was offering a sacrifice, the priest’s servant would come while the meat was boiling, with a three-pronged fork in his hand.
13 or for the priests’ share of the sacrifices from the people. When any man offered a sacrifice, the priest’s servant would come with a three-pronged meat fork while the meat was boiling
13 The custom of the priests with the people was that whenever a person offered a sacrifice, a servant of the priest would come with a three pronged fork in his hand while the meat was boiling, and
14 and he struck it into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; all that the fork brought up the priest took therewith. So they did in Shiloh to all the Israelites who came there.
14 And he struck it into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; all that the fleshhook brought up the priest took for himself. So they did in Shiloh unto all the Israelites that came thither.
14 Then he would thrust it into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; all that the fork brought up the priest would take for himself. Thus they did in Shiloh to all the Israelites who came there.
14 and plunge it into the container or kettle or cauldron or cooking pot.(AF) The priest would claim for himself whatever the meat fork brought up. This is the way they treated all the Israelites who came there to Shiloh.
14 he would stick it into the boiler or pot, and take everything the fork brought up that is, the priest would take it for himself. This is what they were supposed to do with all the Israelis who came there to Shiloh.
15 Yes, before they burnt the fat, the priest's servant came, and said to the man who sacrificed, "Give meat to roast for the priest; for he will not accept boiled meat from you, but raw."
15 Also before they burnt the fat, the priest's servant came, and said to the man that sacrificed, Give flesh to roast for the priest; for he will not have sodden flesh of thee, but raw.
15 Also, before (AH)they burned the fat, the priest’s servant would come and say to the man who was sacrificing, “Give the priest meat for roasting, as he will not take boiled meat from you, only raw.”
15 Even before the fat was burned,(AG) the priest’s servant would come and say to the man who was sacrificing, “Give the priest some meat to roast, because he won’t accept boiled meat from you—only raw.”
15 But even before they burned the fat, the servant of the priest would come and say to the person offering the sacrifice, "Give me meat to roast for the priest. He won't accept boiled meat from you, but only raw."
16 If the man said to him, "Let the fat be burned first, and then take as much as your soul desires"; then he would say, "No, but you shall give it to me now; and if not, I will take it by force."
16 And if any man said unto him, Let them not fail to burn the fat presently, and then take as much as thy soul desireth; then he would answer him, Nay; but thou shalt give it me now: and if not, I will take it by force.
16 If the man said to him, “They must surely (g)burn the fat (h)first, and then take as much as (i)you desire,” then he would say, “No, but you shall give it to me now; and if not, I will take it by force.”
16 If that man said to him, “The fat must be burned first; then you can take whatever you want for yourself,”(AH) the servant would reply, “No, I insist that you hand it over right now. If you don’t, I’ll take it by force!”
16 If the man told him, "They must surely burn up the fat first, and then take for yourself whatever you desire," the servant would say, "No, give it now, and if you don't, I'll take it by force!"
17 The sin of the young men was very great before the LORD; for they despised the offering of the LORD.
17 Wherefore the sin of the young men was very great before the LORD: for men abhorred the offering of the LORD.
17 Thus the sin of the young men was very great before the Lord, for the men (AI)despised the offering of the Lord.
17 So the servants’ sin was very severe in the presence of the Lord, because they treated the Lord’s offering with contempt.(AI)
17 By doing this, the sin of the young men was very serious in the LORD's sight because the men despised the LORD's offering.

23 He said to them, "Why do you do such things? for I hear of your evil dealings from all this people.
23 And he said unto them, Why do ye such things? for I hear of your evil dealings by all this people.
23 He said to them, “Why do you do such things, the evil things that I hear from all these people?
23 He said to them, “Why are you doing these things? I have heard about your evil actions from all these people.
23 "Why are you doing these things that I'm hearing about?" he asked his sons, "These reports about your evil deeds are coming from all these people!
24 No, my sons; for it is no good report that I hear; you make the LORD's people disobey.
24 Nay, my sons; for it is no good report that I hear: ye make the LORD'S people to transgress.
24 No, my sons, the report I hear from the Lord’s people is not good.
24 No, my sons, I'm not hearing good news being circulated by the LORD's people.
25 If one man sin against another, God shall judge him; but if a man sin against the LORD, who shall entreat for him?" Notwithstanding, they did not listen to the voice of their father, because the LORD intended to kill them.
25 If one man sin against another, the judge shall judge him: but if a man sin against the LORD, who shall intreat for him? Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto the voice of their father, because the LORD would slay them.
25 If one man sins against another, (AU)God will mediate for him; but (AV)if a man sins against the Lord, who can intercede for him?” But they would not listen to the voice of their father, for the (AW)Lord desired to put them to death.
25 If a man sins against another man, God can intercede for him, but if a man sins against the Lord, who can intercede for him?”(AT) But they would not listen to their father, since the Lord intended to kill them.(AU)

Yahweh Rebukes Eli
27 A man of God came to Eli, and said to him, "Thus says the LORD, I plainly revealed myself to the house of your father, when they were slaves in Egypt to the house of Pharaoh.
27 And there came a man of God unto Eli, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Did I plainly appear unto the house of thy father, when they were in Egypt in Pharaoh's house?
27 Then (AY)a man of God came to Eli and said to him, “Thus says the Lord, ‘(AZ)Did I not indeed reveal Myself to the house of your father when they were in Egypt in bondage to Pharaoh’s house?
27 A man of God came to Eli and said to him,(AW) “This is what the Lord says: ‘Didn’t I reveal Myself to your ancestral house when it was in Egypt and belonged to Pharaoh’s palace?(AX)
27 A man of God came to Eli, saying to him, "This is what the LORD says: "When they were in Egypt and slaves to the house of Pharaoh, did I not reveal to the family of your ancestor Aaron
28 And I chose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to go up to my altar, to burn incense, to wear an ephod before me. And I gave to the house of your father all the offerings of the children of Israel made by fire.
28 And did I choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to offer upon mine altar, to burn incense, to wear an ephod before me? and did I give unto the house of thy father all the offerings made by fire of the children of Israel?
28 (BA)Did I not choose them from all the tribes of Israel to be My priests, to go up to My altar, to burn incense, to carry an ephod before Me; and did I not (BB)give to the house of your father all the fire offerings of the sons of Israel?
28 Out of all the tribes of Israel, I selected your house(e) to be priests, to offer sacrifices on My altar, to burn incense, and to wear an ephod in My presence.(AY) I also gave your house all the Israelite fire offerings.
28 that I had chosen him out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to offer up burnt offerings on my altar, burn incense, and carry the ephod in my presence? And did I not give to your ancestors' family all the Israeli fire-offerings?
29 Why do you kick at my sacrifice and at my offering, which I have commanded in my habitation, and honor your sons above me, to make yourselves fat with the best of all the offerings of Israel my people?'
29 Wherefore kick ye at my sacrifice and at mine offering, which I have commanded in my habitation; and honourest thy sons above me, to make yourselves fat with the chiefest of all the offerings of Israel my people?
29 Why do you (BC)kick at My sacrifice and at My offering (BD)which I have commanded in My (BE)dwelling, and (BF)honor your sons above Me, by making yourselves fat with the (p)choicest of every offering of My people Israel?’
29 Why, then, do all of you despise My sacrifices and offerings that I require at the place of worship?(AZ) You have honored your sons more than Me,(BA) by making yourselves fat with the best part of all of the offerings of My people Israel.’
29 Why, then, do all of you show contempt for my sacrifice and offering that I've commanded for my dwelling? And you honor your sons more than me in order to fatten yourselves from the best of all the offerings of my people Israel.'
30 "Therefore the LORD, the God of Israel, says, 'I said indeed that your house, and the house of your father, should walk before me forever.' But now the LORD says, 'Be it far from me; for those who honor me I will honor, and those who despise me shall be lightly esteemed.
30 Wherefore the LORD God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the LORD saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.
30 Therefore the Lord God of Israel declares, ‘(BG)I did indeed say that your house and the house of your father should walk before Me forever’; but now the Lord declares, ‘Far be it from Me—for (BH)those who honor Me I will honor, and those (BI)who despise Me will be lightly esteemed.
30 “Therefore, this is the declaration of the Lord, the God of Israel:‘Although I saidyour family and your ancestral housewould walk before Me forever,(BB)the Lord now says, “No longer!”I will honor those who honor Me,(BC)but those who despise Me will be disgraced.(BD)
30 "Therefore, the LORD God of Israel has declared, "I did, in fact, say that your family and your ancestor's family would walk before me forever,' but now the LORD declares, "Far be it from me! The one who honors me I'll honor, and the one who despises me is to be treated with contempt.
31 Behold, the days come, that I will cut off your arm, and the arm of your father's house, that there shall not be an old man in your house.
31 Behold, the days come, that I will cut off thine arm, and the arm of thy father's house, that there shall not be an old man in thine house.
31 Behold, (BJ)the days are coming when I will break your (q)strength and the (r)strength of your father’s house so that there will not be an old man in your house.
31 “‘Look, the days are coming when I will cut off your strength and the strength of your ancestral family, so that none in your family will reach old age.(BE)
31 The time is coming when I'll cut away at your family and your ancestor's family until there are no old men left in your family.
32 You shall see the affliction of my habitation, in all the wealth which I shall give Israel; and there shall not be an old man in your house forever.
32 And thou shalt see an enemy in my habitation, in all the wealth which God shall give Israel: and there shall not be an old man in thine house for ever.
32 You will see (BK)the distress of My dwelling, in spite of all the good that (s)I do for Israel; and an (BL)old man will not be in your house forever.
32 You will see distress in the place of worship,(BF) in spite of all that is good in Israel, and no one in your family will ever again reach old age.(BG)
32 Distress will settle down to live in your household, and despite all the good that I do for Israel, there will never be an old man in your family forever, and you will never again have an old man in my house.
33 The man of yours, whom I shall not cut off from my altar, shall consume your eyes, and grieve your heart; and all the increase of your house shall die in the flower of their age.
33 And the man of thine, whom I shall not cut off from mine altar, shall be to consume thine eyes, and to grieve thine heart: and all the increase of thine house shall die in the flower of their age.
33 Yet I will not cut off every man of yours from My altar (t)so that your eyes will fail from weeping and your soul grieve, and all the increase of your house will die (u)in the prime of life.
33 Any man from your family I do not cut off from My altar will bring grief(f) and sadness to you. All your descendants will die violently.(g)(h)
33 Any of you whom I don't eliminate from serving at my altar will grow tired from weeping, and their souls will grieve. All the increase of your family will die by violence.
34 "'This shall be the sign to you, that shall come on your two sons, on Hophni and Phinehas: in one day they shall both die.
34 And this shall be a sign unto thee, that shall come upon thy two sons, on Hophni and Phinehas; in one day they shall die both of them.
34 This will be (BM)the sign to you which will come concerning your two sons, Hophni and Phinehas: (BN)on the same day both of them will die.
34 This will be the sign that will come to you concerning your two sons Hophni and Phinehas:(BH) both of them will die on the same day.(BI)
34 Here's a sign for you your two sons Hophni and Phineas will both die on the same day!
35 I will raise me up a faithful priest, that shall do according to that which is in my heart and in my mind. I will build him a sure house; and he shall walk before my anointed forever.
35 And I will raise me up a faithful priest, that shall do according to that which is in mine heart and in my mind: and I will build him a sure house; and he shall walk before mine anointed for ever.
35 But (BO)I will raise up for Myself a faithful priest who will do according to what is in My heart and in My soul; and (BP)I will build him an enduring house, and he will walk before (BQ)My anointed always.
35 “‘Then I will raise up a faithful priest(BJ) for Myself. He will do whatever is in My heart and mind. I will establish a lasting dynasty for him,(BK) and he will walk before My anointed one for all time.(BL)
35 And I'll raise up for myself a faithful priest who will do according to what is in my heart and according to my desire. I'll build for him an enduring house and he will walk before my anointed one forever.
36 It shall happen, that everyone who is left in your house shall come and bow down to him for a piece of silver and a loaf of bread, and shall say, "Please put me into one of the priests' offices, that I may eat a morsel of bread."'"
36 And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left in thine house shall come and crouch to him for a piece of silver and a morsel of bread, and shall say, Put me, I pray thee, into one of the priests' offices, that I may eat a piece of bread.
36 Everyone who is left in your house will come and bow down to him for a (v)piece of silver or a loaf of bread and say, “Please (w)assign me to one of the priest’s offices so that I may eat a piece of bread.”’”
36 Anyone who is left in your family will come and bow down to him for a piece of silver or a loaf of bread. He will say: Please appoint me to some priestly office so I can have a piece of bread to eat.’”
36 Anyone who remains in your family will come and prostrate themselves before him for a small wage or a loaf of bread and will say, "Please put me in one of the priest's offices so I can eat a piece of bread."'"
