For i have told him

A man of God came to Eli. He said: Thus says Jehovah: 'Did I plainly appear to the house of your father when they were in Egypt in Pharaoh's house?

I will

You are our God. Will you judge them? We do not have the strength to face this large crowd that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, so we are looking to you.

The end is now upon you and I will unleash my anger against you. I will judge you according to your conduct and repay you for all your detestable practices.

That is why I will judge each of you by what you have done, people of Israel, declares the Lord Jehovah. Change the way you think and act. (Repent!) Turn away from all the rebellious things that you have done so that you will not fall into sin.

Let the nations be aroused and come up to the valley of Jehoshaphat (Jehovah's Judgment)! I will sit there to judge all the nations round about.

Which he knoweth

You know very well all the wrong that you did to my father David. Jehovah will punish you for it.

Often your own heart knows you have also cursed others.

If our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.

His sons

The sons of Eli were corrupt. They did not know Jehovah.

Vile

So he said to them: Why do you do such things? I hear of your evil dealings by all the people.

His father never confronted him by asking: Why have you done this?

Correct your son while there is hope. Do not contribute to his death.

Do not withhold discipline from a child. If you spank him with a stick he will not die.

The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself brings shame to his mother.

He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me. He who loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
