1 Thessalonians 4

¹ Finally then, my brothers, I continue to beseech and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that, as you learned of me how to walk so as to please God??nd you are actually doing so??hat you abound in it yet more and more.

^{1 (A)}Finally then, ^(B)brethren, we request and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that as you received from us instruction as to how you ought to ^(a)(C)walk and ^(D)please God (just as you actually do ^(b)walk), that you ^(E)excel still more.

¹ Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more.

¹ Finally then, brothers, we ask and encourage you in the Lord Jesus, that as you have received from us how you must walk and please God—as you are doing^(a)—do so even more.

¹ Now then, brothers, you learned from us how you ought to live and to please God, as in fact you are doing. We ask and encourage you in the Lord to do so even more.

³ For this is God's will, even your sanctification; that you should abstain from sexual vice.

³ For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that is, that you ^(F)abstain from ^(d)sexual immorality;

³ For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:

³ For this is God’s will,^(A) your sanctification:^(B) that you abstain^(C) from sexual immorality,

³ For it is God's will that you be sanctified: You must abstain from sexual immorality.

⁵ Not in the passion of lust, like the Gentiles who know not God.

⁵ not in ^(g)(J)lustful passion, like the Gentiles who ^(K)do not know God;

⁵ Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God:

⁵ not with lustful desires,^(D) like the Gentiles who don’t know God.

⁵ not with passion and lust like the gentiles who do not know God.

⁷ For God has not called us for uncleanness, but in holiness.

⁷ For ^(P)God has not called us for ^(Q)the purpose of impurity, but ^(h)in sanctification.

⁷ For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.

⁷ For God has not called us to impurity^(F) but to sanctification.

⁷ For God did not call us to be impure, but to be holy.

⁹ It is not needed that I should write to you about brotherly love; for you yourselves have been taught by God to love one another.

⁹ Now as to the ^(S)love of the brethren, you ^(T)have no need for anyone to write to you, for you yourselves are ^(U)taught by God to love one another;

⁹ But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another.

⁹ About brotherly love: You don’t need me to write you because you yourselves are taught by God^(H) to love one another.^(I)

⁹ Now you do not need anyone to write to you about brotherly love, since you have been taught by God to love each other.

¹¹ Also, that you endeavor to live quietly and to mind your own business, and to work with your hands (as I charged you).

¹¹ and to make it your ambition ^(X)to lead a quiet life and ^(Y)attend to your own business and ^(Z)work with your hands, just as we commanded you,

¹¹ And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you;

¹¹ to seek to lead a quiet life,^(K) to mind your own business,^(d) and to work^(L) with your own hands, as we commanded you,

¹¹ Also, make it your goal to live quietly, to mind your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we instructed you,

¹³ But I would not have you ignorant, brothers, about those who are falling asleep. You must not sorrow like other men, who have no hope.

¹³ But ^(AD)we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who ^(AE)are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do ^(AF)the rest who have ^(AG)no hope.

¹³ But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.

¹³ We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, concerning those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve like the rest, who have no hope.^(O)

¹³ But we do not want you to be ignorant, brothers, about those who have died, so that you may not grieve like other people who have no hope.

¹⁵ For this I tell you by the word of the Lord, that we who are living, who survive unto the coming of the Lord, will in no wise precede those who have fallen asleep.

¹⁵ For this we say to you ^(AJ)by the word of the Lord, that ^(AK)we who are alive ^(l)and remain until ^(AL)the coming of the Lord, will not precede ^(AM)those who have fallen asleep.

¹⁵ For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.

¹⁵ For we say this to you by a revelation from the Lord:^(i)(S) We who are still alive at the Lord’s coming^(T) will certainly have no advantage over^(j) those who have fallen asleep.^(U)

¹⁵ For we declare to you what the Lord has told us to say: We who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who have died.

¹⁷ And afterwards we who are alive, who remain, shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air; and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

¹⁷ Then ^(AT)we who are alive ⁽ⁿ⁾and remain will be ^(AU)caught up together with them ^(AV)in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always ^(AW)be with the Lord.

¹⁷ Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

¹⁷ Then^(Y) we who are still alive will be caught up together with them in the clouds^(Z) to meet the Lord in the air and so we will always be with the Lord.

¹⁷ Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up in the clouds together with them to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.
