Since, according to David's final instructions, the list above contains the total number of descendants of Levi from the age of 20 years and upward,

"Number the descendants of Levi according to their ancestral houses and tribes, numbering every male from a month old and above."

Merari's descendants according to their families were Mahli and Mushi. These are the families of the descendants of Levi according to their ancestral house.
