After everything Hezekiah had done so faithfully, King Sennacherib of Assyria came to invade Judah. He set up camp to attack the fortified cities. He intended to conquer them himself.

Now in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah, Sennacherib, king of Assyria, came up against all the walled towns of Judah and took them.

Pul king of Assyria came against the land. Menahem gave Pul a thousand talents of silver to let him keep the kingdom.

In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria captured Samaria. He led the Israelites away to Assyria. He stationed them in Halah and Habor on the Gozan River, and in the towns of the Medes.

The king of Assyria took Israel away as prisoners into Assyria. They placed them in Halah and in Habor on the river Gozan, and in towns of the Medes.

Shortly after that the Moabites, Ammonites, and some of the Meunites came to wage war against Jehoshaphat.

Jehovah will bring on you and on your people and on the house of your father a time unlike any since Ephraim broke away from Judah. He will bring the king of Assyria upon you.

These people have rejected the gently flowing water of Shiloah and find joy in Rezin and Remaliah's son.

How horrible it will be for Assyria! It is the rod of my anger. My fury is in the staff of the Assyrians' hands.

It was Hezekiah's fourteenth year as king. King Sennacherib of Assyria attacked all the fortified cities of Judah and captured them.

Will they not return to Egypt and will not Assyria rule over them because they refuse to repent?

The breaker (one who opens the breach) (one that breaks through) has gone ahead of them. They will pass through the gate and go out by it. Their king will lead them with Jehovah at the head of them.

But the Assyrian emperor has his own violent plans in mind. He is determined to destroy many nations.
By your messengers you have heaped insults on Jehovah. You said: With my many chariots I have ascended the heights of the mountains, the utmost heights of Lebanon. I cut down its tallest cedars, the choicest of its pines. I reach its remotest heights, the finest of its forests.
