And the Lord sent an angel who destroyed every mighty warrior, commander and officer in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned in shame to his own land. And when he had entered the temple of his god, some of his own children killed him there with the sword.

When the angel stretched out his hand toward Jerusalem to destroy it, the Lord relented from the calamity and said to the angel who destroyed the people, “It is enough! Now relax your hand!” And the angel of the Lord was by the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.

Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah saying, “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, ‘Because you have prayed to Me about Sennacherib king of Assyria, I have heard you.’

Then it happened that night that the angel of the Lord went out and struck 185,000 in the camp of the Assyrians; and when men rose early in the morning, behold, all of them were dead.

Wise in heart and mighty in strength,
Who has defied Him without harm?

He gives great deliverance to His king,
And shows lovingkindness to His anointed,
To David and his descendants forever.

The stouthearted were plundered,
They sank into sleep;
And none of the warriors could use his hands.

You, even You, are to be feared;
And who may stand in Your presence when once You are angry?

He will cut off the spirit of princes;
He is feared by the kings of the earth.

“His enemies I will clothe with shame,
But upon himself his crown shall shine.”

When pride comes, then comes dishonor,
But with the humble is wisdom.

Pride goes before destruction,
And a haughty spirit before stumbling.

For it says, “Are not my princes all kings?

Therefore the Lord, the God of hosts, will send a wasting disease among his stout warriors;
And under his glory a fire will be kindled like a burning flame.

Behold, the Lord, the God of hosts, will lop off the boughs with a terrible crash;
Those also who are tall in stature will be cut down
And those who are lofty will be abased.

Alas, the uproar of many peoples
Who roar like the roaring of the seas,
And the rumbling of nations
Who rush on like the rumbling of mighty waters!

But the multitude of your enemies will become like fine dust,
And the multitude of the ruthless ones like the chaff which blows away;
And it will happen instantly, suddenly.

And the Lord will cause His voice of authority to be heard,
And the descending of His arm to be seen in fierce anger,
And in the flame of a consuming fire
In cloudburst, downpour and hailstones.

“Now I will arise,” says the Lord,
“Now I will be exalted, now I will be lifted up.

How then can you repulse one official of the least of my master’s servants and rely on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?

Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent word to Hezekiah, saying, “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, ‘Because you have prayed to Me about Sennacherib king of Assyria,

I will not give My glory to another,
Nor My praise to graven images.

Nebuchadnezzar responded and said, “Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego, who has sent His angel and delivered His servants who put their trust in Him, violating the king’s command, and yielded up their bodies so as not to serve or worship any god except their own God.

My God sent His angel and shut the lions’ mouths and they have not harmed me, inasmuch as I was found innocent before Him; and also toward you, O king, I have committed no crime.”

So it will be at the end of the age; the angels will come forth and take out the wicked from among the righteous,

And immediately an angel of the Lord struck him because he did not give God the glory, and he was eaten by worms and died.

Then the kings of the earth and the great men and the commanders and the rich and the strong and every slave and free man hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains;

Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, and he cried out with a loud voice, saying to all the birds which fly in midheaven, “Come, assemble for the great supper of God,
