For he rent Israel from the house of David; and they made Jeroboam the son of Nebat king: and Jeroboam drave Israel from following the LORD, and made them sin a great sin.

So the Lord said to Solomon, “Because
you have done this, and you have not kept My covenant and My statutes, which I have commanded you, I will surely tear the kingdom from you, and will give it to your servant.
1 Kings 14:8
tore the kingdom away from the house of David and gave it to you— yet you have not been like My servant David, who kept My commandments and who followed Me with all his heart, to do only that which was right in My sight;
The Lord will bring on you, on your people, and on your father’s house such days as have never come since the day that

So Israel has been in rebellion against the house of David to this day.
2 Chronicles 10:15
So the king did not listen to the people,
for it was a turn of events from God that the Lord might establish His word, which He spoke through Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

It came about when all Israel heard that Jeroboam had returned, that they sent and called him to the assembly and made him king over all Israel.
None but the tribe of Judah followed the house of David.
1 Kings 14:16
He will give up Israel
on account of the sins of Jeroboam, which he committed and with which he made Israel to sin.”

He also strengthened the fortresses and put officers in them and stores of food, oil and wine.
A great sin
Then Abimelech called Abraham and said to him, “What have you done to us? And how have I sinned against you, that you have brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? You have done to me things that ought not to be done.”
Then Moses said to Aaron, “What did this people do to you, that you have brought such great sin upon them?”
1 Samuel 2:17
Thus the sin of the young men was very great before the Lord, for the men
despised the offering of the Lord.
For Your name’s sake, O Lord, Pardon my iniquity, for it is great.
“ You would have no authority over Me, unless it had been given you from above; for this reason he who delivered Me to you has the greater sin.”
