for I will show him how many things he must suffer for My name's sake.

serving the Lord with all humility, and with tears, and with trials which befell me in the plottings of the Jews;

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or perils or sword?

For, I think, God did set forth us the apostles last, as doomed to death; because we became a spectacle to the world, both to angels and to men.

For we do not wish you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning our tribulation which befell us in Asia; that we were exceedingly weighed down beyond our power, insomuch that we despaired even of life:

being pressed on every side, yet not cooped up; perplexed, yet not despairing;

Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as beside myself) I am more; in labors more abundantly, in prisons more abundantly, in stripes above measure, in deaths often;

partly, indeed, when ye were made a spectacle both with reproaches and tribulations; and partly, when ye became partakers with those who were so used;

But the Jews, seeing the multitudes, were filled with jealousy, and contradicted the things spoken by Paul, blaspheming.

But the unbelieving Jews stirred up and embittered the souls of the gentiles against the brethren.

I have contended in the noble contest, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith;

And, when many days were completed, the Jews took counsel together to kill him;

who, at once, taking with him soldiers and centurions, ran down upon them; and they, seeing the chief captain and the soldiers, ceased beating Paul.

And, when a great dissension was arising, the chief captain, fearing lest Paul might be torn in pieces by them, commanded the soldiers, going down, to take him by force out of their midst, and lead him into the castle.

asking it as a favor against him, that he would send for him to Jerusalem, making an ambush, to kill him on the way.

delivering you from the people and the gentiles, to whom I send you,

Who delivered us out of so great a death, and will still deliver: on Whom we have set our hope, that He will also still deliver;

the Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptation, and to keep the unrighteous enduring punishment unto the day of judgment;
