Difficult Times Ahead In The Last Days

1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

1 But realize this, that (A)in the last days difficult times will come.

1 But know this: Difficult times will come in the last days.(A)

1 You must realize, however, that in the last days difficult times will come.

1 But understand this, that in the last days dangerous times [of great stress and trouble] will come [difficult days that will be hard to bear].

2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

2 For men will be (B)lovers of self, (C)lovers of money, (D)boastful, (E)arrogant, (F)revilers, (G)disobedient to parents, (H)ungrateful, (I)unholy,

2 For people will be lovers of self,(B) lovers of money,(C) boastful, proud,(D) blasphemers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy,(E)

2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,

2 For people will be lovers of self [narcissistic, self-focused], lovers of money [impelled by greed], boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy and profane,

3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,

3 (J)unloving, irreconcilable, (K)malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, (a)(L)haters of good,

3 unloving, irreconcilable, slanderers,(F) without self-control, brutal, without love for what is good,(G)

3 unfeeling, uncooperative, slanderous, degenerate, brutal, hateful of what is good,

3 [and they will be] unloving [devoid of natural human affection, calloused and inhumane], irreconcilable, malicious gossips, devoid of self-control [intemperate, immoral], brutal, haters of good,

4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

4 (M)treacherous, (N)reckless, (O)conceited, (P)lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,

4 traitors,(H) reckless,(I) conceited,(J) lovers of pleasure(K) rather than lovers of God,

4 traitors, reckless, conceited, and lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God.

4 traitors, reckless, conceited, lovers of [sensual] pleasure rather than lovers of God,

5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

5 holding to a form of (b)(Q)godliness, although they have (R)denied its power; (S)Avoid such men as these.

5 holding to the form of godliness but denying its power.(L) Avoid these people!(M)

5 They will hold to an outward form of godliness but deny its power. Stay away from such people.

5 holding to a form of [outward] godliness (religion), although they have denied its power [for their conduct nullifies their claim of faith]. Avoid such people and keep far away from them.

6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,

6 For among them are those who (c)(T)enter into households and captivate (d)(U)weak women weighed down with sins, led on by (V)various impulses,

6 For among them are those who worm their way into households and capture idle women burdened down with sins, led along by a variety of passions,(N)

6 For some of these men go into homes and deceive foolish women who are burdened with sins and swayed by all kinds of desires.

6 For among them are those who worm their way into homes and captivate morally weak and spiritually-dwarfed women weighed down by [the burden of their] sins, easily swayed by various impulses,

7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

7 always learning and never able to (W)come to the (e)knowledge of the truth.

7 always learning and never able to come to a knowledge of the truth.(O)

7 These women are always studying but are never able to arrive at a full knowledge of the truth.

7 always learning and listening to anybody who will teach them, but never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.

8 Just as (X)Jannes and Jambres (Y)opposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, (Z)men of depraved mind, rejected in regard to the faith.

8 Just as Jannes and Jambres(P) resisted Moses,(Q) so these also resist the truth, men who are corrupt in mind,(R) worthless(S) in regard to the faith.

8 Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these men oppose the truth. They are depraved in mind and their faith is a counterfeit.

8 Just as Jannes and Jambres [the court magicians of Egypt] opposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, men of depraved mind, unqualified and worthless [as teachers] in regard to the faith.(A)

9 But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was.

9 But they will not make further progress; for their (AA)folly will be obvious to all, just (AB)as (f)Jannes’s and Jambres’s folly was also.

9 But they will not make further progress, for their lack of understanding will be clear to all, as theirs(a) was also.

9 But they will not get very far because, as in the case of those two men, their stupidity will be plain to everyone.

9 But they will not get very far, for their meaningless nonsense and ignorance will become obvious to everyone, as was that of Jannes and Jambres.

The Value Of The Scriptures

10 But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience,

10 Now you (AC)followed my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, patience, (AD)love, (g)perseverance,

10 But you have followed my teaching, conduct, purpose,(T) faith, patience, love,(U) and endurance,

10 But you have observed my teaching, my way of life, my purpose, my faith, my patience, my love, my endurance,

10 Now you have diligently followed [my example, that is] my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, patience, love, steadfastness,

11 Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me.

11 (AE)persecutions, and (AF)sufferings, such as happened to me at (AG)Antioch, at (AH)Iconium and at (AI)Lystra; what (AJ)persecutions I endured, and out of them all (AK)the Lord rescued me!

11 along with the persecutions and sufferings(V) that came to me in Antioch,(W) Iconium,(X) and Lystra.(Y) What persecutions I endured! Yet the Lord rescued me from them all.

11 and how I was persecuted and suffered in Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra. What persecutions I endured! Yet the Lord rescued me from all of them.

11 persecutions, and sufferings—such as happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, and at Lystra; what persecutions I endured, but the Lord rescued me from them all!(B)

12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

12 Indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus (AL)will be persecuted.

12 In fact, all those who want to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.(Z)

12 Indeed, all who want to live a godly life in union with the Messiah Jesus will be persecuted.

12 Indeed, all who delight in pursuing righteousness and are determined to live godly lives in Christ Jesus will be hunted and persecuted [because of their faith].

13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.

13 But evil men and impostors (AM)will proceed from bad to worse, (AN)deceiving and being deceived.

13 Evil people and impostors will become worse, deceiving(AA) and being deceived.

13 But evil people and impostors will go from bad to worse as they deceive others and are themselves deceived.

13 But evil men and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.

14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;

14 You, however, (AO)continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them,

14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and firmly believed. You know those who taught you,(AB)

14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and found to be true, because you know from whom you learned it.

14 But as for you, continue in the things that you have learned and of which you are convinced [holding tightly to the truths], knowing from whom you learned them,

15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

15 and that (AP)from childhood you have known (AQ)the sacred writings which are able to (AR)give you the wisdom that leads to (AS)salvation through faith which is in (AT)Christ Jesus.

15 and you know that from childhood you have known the sacred Scriptures,(AC) which are able to give you wisdom for salvation(AD) through faith in Christ Jesus.

15 From infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures that are able to give you the wisdom you need for salvation through faith in the Messiah Jesus.

15 and how from childhood you have known the sacred writings (Hebrew Scriptures) which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus [surrendering your entire self to Him and having absolute confidence in His wisdom, power and goodness].

16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

16 (AU)All Scripture is (h)inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for (i)training in righteousness;

16 All Scripture is inspired by God(b)(AE) and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness,

16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,

16 All Scripture is God-breathed [given by divine inspiration] and is profitable for instruction, for conviction [of sin], for correction [of error and restoration to obedience], for training in righteousness [learning to live in conformity to God’s will, both publicly and privately—behaving honorably with personal integrity and moral courage];

17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

17 so that (AV)the man of God may be adequate, (AW)equipped for every good work.

17 so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.(AF)

17 so that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good action.

17 so that the (a)man of God may be complete and proficient, outfitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work.
