Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?

and while I was speaking to them, the holy spirit descended upon them, as it did on us, at the beginning.

God who knows their hearts has granted them a testimonial, by giving them the holy spirit, even as he did to us:

take your due, and be gone: I will give the last the same I give you.

God forbid. for he saith to Moses, "I will show favour to whom I will show favour, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion."

for who hath known the mind of the Lord, or who hath been his counsellor?

then Peter said, can we refuse the water of baptism to such as have received the holy spirit as well as we?

nay, but, O man, who art thou, to raise a dust against heaven? shall the pitcher say to him that formed it, "why hast thou made me thus?"
