And when Herod had sought for him, and found him not, he examined the keepers, and commanded that they should be put to death. And he went down from Judaea to Caesarea, and there abode.

Ziph. And Saul sought him every day, but God did not deliver him into his hand.
The wicked spies upon the righteous
seeks to kill him.
And the king commanded Jerahmeel the king’s son, Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel to
seize Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet, but the Lord hid them.
Now when they had gone, behold, an
angel of the Lord * appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Get up! Take the Child and His mother and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you; for Herod is going to search for the Child to destroy Him.”
When he had seized him, he put him in prison, delivering him to four
squads of soldiers to guard him, intending after the Passover to bring him out before the people.
Now while they were on their way, some of
the guard came into the city and reported to the chief priests all that had happened.
Moreover, the thing which the king demands is
difficult, and there is no one else who could declare it to the king except gods, whose dwelling place is not with mortal flesh.”
Then when Herod saw that he had been tricked by
the magi, he became very enraged, and sent and slew all the male children who were in Bethlehem and all its vicinity, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined from the magi.
But the chief priests planned to put Lazarus to death also;
On the next day we left and came to
Caesarea, and entering the house of Philip the evangelist, who was one of the seven, we stayed with him.
Now when several days had elapsed, King Agrippa and Bernice arrived at
Caesarea and paid their respects to Festus.
