When John had first preached before his coming the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.

beginning from the baptism of John till the day on which he was taken up from us, should be made with us a witness of his resurrection.

And he said to them, With what then were you baptized? And they said, With John's baptism.

AND in those days came John the Baptist preaching in the wilderness of Judea, saying,

as it is written in Isaiah the prophet; Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who shall prepare your way.

And you, little child, shall be called a prophet of the Most High; for you shall go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways,

under the chief priest Annas, and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John the son of Zachariah, in the wilderness.

There was a man, sent by God, whose name was John.

Then there was a controversy of the disciples of John with a Jew concerning purification.

You sent to John, and he testified to the truth;
