1 While Apollos was in Corinth, Paul traveled through the interior regions and came to Ephesus. He found some disciples(A)
1 It happened that while (A)Apollos was at (B)Corinth, Paul passed through the (C)upper country and came to (D)Ephesus, and found some disciples.
1 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,

2 and asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?”“No,” they told him, “we haven’t even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”(B)

10 And this went on for two years, so that all the inhabitants of Asia, both Jews and Greeks, heard the message about the Lord.(H)

13 Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.
13 Then some Jews who went around trying to drive out demons attempted to use the name of the Lord Jesus on those who had evil spirits, saying, "I command you by that Jesus whom Paul preaches!"
13 Then some of the traveling Jewish exorcists also attempted to call the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, “I implore you and solemnly command you by the Jesus whom Paul preaches!”

21 When these events were over, Paul resolved in the Spirit to pass through Macedonia and Achaia and go to Jerusalem. “After I’ve been there,” he said, “I must see Rome as well!”(M)
21 Now after these things were finished, Paul purposed in the (h)Spirit to (AD)go to Jerusalem (AE)after he had passed through (AF)Macedonia and (AG)Achaia, saying, “After I have been there, (AH)I must also see Rome.”
21 After these things were ended, Paul purposed in the spirit, when he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying, After I have been there, I must also see Rome.

22 So after sending two of those who assisted him, Timothy and Erastus, to Macedonia, he himself stayed in Asia for a while.(N)

24 For a person named Demetrius, a silversmith who made silver shrines of Artemis,(c) provided a great deal of(d) business for the craftsmen.
24 For a man named Demetrius, a silversmith, who made silver shrines of (j)Artemis, (AO)was bringing no little (k)business to the craftsmen;
24 For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, which made silver shrines for Diana, brought no small gain unto the craftsmen;
24 By making silver shrines of Artemis, a silversmith named Demetrius provided a large income for skilled workers.
24 Now a man named Demetrius, a silversmith, who made silver shrines of [the goddess] Artemis (Diana), was bringing no small profit to the craftsmen.
25 When he had assembled them, as well as the workers engaged in this type of business, he said: “Men, you know that our prosperity is derived from this business.
25 these he gathered together with the workmen of similar trades, and said, “Men, you know that our prosperity (l)depends upon this business.
25 Whom he called together with the workmen of like occupation, and said, Sirs, ye know that by this craft we have our wealth.
25 He called a meeting of these men and others who were engaged in similar trades and said, "Men, you well know that we get a good income from this business.
25 These [craftsmen] he called together, along with the workmen of similar trades, and said, “Men, you are well aware that we make a good living from this business.
26 You both see and hear that not only in Ephesus, but in almost all of Asia, this man Paul has persuaded and misled a considerable number of people by saying that gods made by hand are not gods!(P)
26 You see and hear that not only in (AP)Ephesus, but in almost all of (m)(AQ)Asia, this Paul has persuaded and turned away a considerable number of people, saying that (n)(AR)gods made with hands are no gods at all.
26 Moreover ye see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul hath persuaded and turned away much people, saying that they be no gods, which are made with hands:
26 You also see and hear that, not only in Ephesus, but almost all over Asia, this man Paul has won over and taken away a large crowd by telling them that gods made by human hands are not gods at all.
26 You see and hear that not only at Ephesus, but almost all over [the province of] Asia, this Paul has persuaded [people to believe his teaching] and has misled a large number of people, claiming that gods made by [human] hands are not really gods at all.
27 So not only do we run a risk that our business may be discredited, but also that the temple of the great goddess Artemis may be despised and her magnificence come to the verge of ruin—the very one all of Asia and the world adore.”
27 Not only is there danger that this trade of ours fall into disrepute, but also that the temple of the great goddess (o)Artemis be regarded as worthless and that she whom all of (p)(AS)Asia and (AT)the (q)world worship will even be dethroned from her magnificence.”
27 So that not only this our craft is in danger to be set at nought; but also that the temple of the great goddess Diana should be despised, and her magnificence should be destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worshippeth.
27 There is a danger not only that our business will lose its reputation but also that the temple of the great goddess Artemis will be brought into disrepute and that she will be robbed of her majesty that brought all Asia and the world to worship her."
28 When they had heard this, they were filled with rage and began to cry out, “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!”

33 Then some of the crowd gave Alexander advice when the Jews pushed him to the front. So motioning with his hand, Alexander wanted to make his defense to the people.(S)
33 Some of the crowd (y)concluded it was Alexander, since the Jews had put him forward; and having (BB)motioned with his hand, Alexander was intending to make a defense to the (z)assembly.
33 And they drew Alexander out of the multitude, the Jews putting him forward. And Alexander beckoned with the hand, and would have made his defence unto the people.
33 Some of the crowd concluded it was because of Alexander, since the Jews had pushed him to the front. So Alexander motioned for silence and tried to make a defense before the people.
33 Some of the crowd advised Alexander [to speak], since the Jews had pushed him forward; and Alexander motioned with his hand [for attention] and intended to make a defense to the people.
34 But when they recognized that he was a Jew, a united cry went up from all of them for about two hours: “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!”

35 However, when the city clerk had calmed the crowd down, he said, “Men of Ephesus! What man is there who doesn’t know that the city of the Ephesians is the temple guardian of the great(f) Artemis, and of the image that fell from heaven?
35 After quieting the crowd, the town clerk *said, “Men of (BC)Ephesus, what man is there after all who does not know that the city of the Ephesians is guardian of the temple of the great (ab)Artemis and of the image which fell down from (ac)heaven?
35 And when the townclerk had appeased the people, he said, Ye men of Ephesus, what man is there that knoweth not how that the city of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddess Diana, and of the image which fell down from Jupiter?
35 When the city recorder had quieted the crowd, he said, "Men of Ephesus, who in the world doesn't know that this city of Ephesus is the keeper of the temple of the great Artemis and of the statue that fell down from heaven?
36 Therefore, since these things are undeniable, you must keep calm and not do anything rash.
36 So, since these are undeniable facts, you ought to keep calm and to do nothing rash.
36 Seeing then that these things cannot be spoken against, ye ought to be quiet, and to do nothing rashly.
36 Since these things cannot be denied, you must be quiet and not do anything reckless.

38 So then, if Demetrius and the craftsmen who are with him have a complaint against any man, the courts are in session and (ad)(BE)proconsuls are available; let them bring charges against one another.
38 Wherefore if Demetrius, and the craftsmen which are with him, have a matter against any man, the law is open, and there are deputies: let them implead one another.
38 So if Demetrius and his workers have a charge against anyone, the courts are open and there are proconsuls. They should accuse one another there.
38 So then, if Demetrius and the craftsmen who are with him have a complaint against anyone, the courts are in session and proconsuls are available; let them bring charges against one another there.
39 But if you want something else, it must be decided in a legal assembly.
39 But if ye inquire any thing concerning other matters, it shall be determined in a lawful assembly.

40 In fact, we run a risk of being charged with rioting for what happened today, since there is no justification that we can give as a reason for this disorderly gathering.”
40 For indeed we are in danger of being accused of a riot in connection with today’s events, since there is no real cause for it, and in this connection we will be unable to account for this disorderly gathering.”
40 For we are in danger to be called in question for this day's uproar, there being no cause whereby we may give an account of this concourse.
40 because we are in danger of being charged with rioting today, and there is no good reason we can give to justify this commotion."
40 For we are running the risk of being accused of rioting in regard to today’s events, and since there is no reason for it, we will be unable to give an account and justify this disorderly gathering.”
