But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you;

And there was one named Barabbas, who lay bound with them that had made insurrection with him, who had committed murder in the insurrection.

(Who for an insurrection made in the city, and for murder had been cast into prison.)

This was the Lord's doing, and it was marvellous in our eyes.

that he would rather release Barabbas to them.

But his citizens hated him, and sent an embassy after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us.

) How our chief priests and rulers delivered him to be condemned to death,

Of sin, because they believe not on me;

Then cried they all again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber.

And though they found no cause of death in him, yet desired they Pilate, that he might be put to death.
