Two wicked men came in, sat down in front of them, and testified against Naboth in public, "Naboth cursed God and the king!" So they took him outside the city and stoned him to death.

They got up, forced Jesus out of the city, and led him to the edge of the hill on which their city was built, intending to throw him off.

That is why Jesus, in order to sanctify the people by his own blood, also suffered outside the city gate.

The witnesses

They had false witnesses stand up and say, "This man never stops saying things against this Holy Place and against the Law.

But you must surely execute him. You must be the first to put him to death with your own hand, and then the hands of the whole community.

Let the witnesses be the first to begin executing them, then the rest of the people shall follow. By doing this you will purge evil from among you."

Now Saul heartily approved of putting Stephen to death. That day a severe persecution broke out against the church in Jerusalem, and everyone except for the apostles was scattered throughout the countryside of Judea and Samaria.

Meanwhile, still spewing death threats against the Lord's disciples, Saul went to the high priest.

I persecuted this Way, even executing people, and kept tying up both men and women and putting them in prison,
