1 It was pleasing before Darius, that he should set up over the kingdom, a hundred and twenty satraps, - that they should be over all the kingdom;
1 (a)It seemed good to Darius to appoint 120 satraps over the kingdom, that they would be in charge of the whole kingdom,
1 It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom an hundred and twenty princes, which should be over the whole kingdom;
1 It pleased Darius to appoint 120 regional authorities over the kingdom throughout the realm,
2 and, over these, three confidential ministers, of whom, Daniel, was first, - that, to them, these satraps should render an account, and, the king, not be suffering loss.
2 and over them three commissioners (of whom (A)Daniel was one), that these satraps might be accountable to them, and that the king might not suffer (B)loss.
2 And over these three presidents; of whom Daniel was first: that the princes might give accounts unto them, and the king should have no damage.
2 and over them three administrators, including Daniel.(A) These satraps would be accountable to them so that the king would not be defrauded.(B)
2 along with three chief administrators from them, one of which was Daniel. The regional authorities reported to these three administrators, so that the king would experience no losses.
3 Then, this Daniel, signalised himself, above the ministers and the satraps, because, a distinguished spirit, was in him, and, the king, thought to set him up over all the kingdom,
3 Then this Daniel began distinguishing himself (b)among the commissioners and satraps because (c)he possessed an (C)extraordinary spirit, and the king planned to appoint him over the (D)entire kingdom.
3 Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.
3 Daniel(b) distinguished himself above the administrators and satraps because he had an extraordinary spirit,(C) so the king planned to set him over the whole realm.(D)
3 Daniel distinguished himself among all the administrators and regional authorities, because he was of an extraordinary spirit. Therefore the king planned to appoint him over the whole kingdom.
4 Then, the ministers and the satraps, began seeking to find, occasion, against Daniel, in respect of the kingdom, - but, no occasion nor wickedness, could they find, inasmuch as, faithful, was he, and, neither error nor wickedness, could be found against him.
4 Then the commissioners and satraps began (E)trying to find a ground of accusation against Daniel in regard to (d)government affairs; but they could find (F)no ground of accusation or evidence of corruption, inasmuch as he was faithful, and no negligence or corruption was to be found in him.
4 Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him.
4 The administrators and satraps, therefore, kept trying to find a charge against Daniel(E) regarding the kingdom. But they could find no charge or corruption,(F) for he was trustworthy, and no negligence or corruption was found in him.
4 Because of this, the administrators and regional authorities tried to bring allegations of dereliction of duty in government affairs against Daniel, but they were unable to find any charges of corruption. Daniel was trustworthy, and no evidence of negligence or corruption could be found against him.
5 Then, these men, were saying, We shall not find against this Daniel, any occasion; unless we find it against him in respect of the law of his God.
5 Then these men said, “We will not find any ground of accusation against this Daniel unless we find it against him with regard to the (G)law of his God.”
5 Then said these men, We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel, except we find it against him concerning the law of his God.
5 Then these men said, “We will never find any charge against this Daniel unless we find something against him concerning the law of his God.”(G)
5 So these men said, "We'll never find any basis for complaint against Daniel unless we build it on the requirements of his God."
6 Then, these ministers and satraps, crowded together unto the king, - and, thus, were saying to him, O Darius the king! for ages, live!
6 Then these commissioners and satraps came (e)by agreement to the king and spoke to him as follows: “King Darius, (H)live forever!
6 Then these presidents and princes assembled together to the king, and said thus unto him, King Darius, live for ever.
6 So the administrators and satraps went together to the king and said to him, “May King Darius live forever.(H)
6 Then these administrators and regional authorities went as a group to the king and said this, "Your majesty, live forever!
7 All the ministers of the kingdom, the nobles and satraps, the near friends and the pashas, have consulted together, to establish a royal statute, and to confirm an interdict, - That, whosoever shall ask a petition of any God or man, for thirty days, save of thee, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions.
7 All the (I)commissioners of the kingdom, the prefects and the satraps, the high officials and the governors have (J)consulted together that the king should establish a statute and enforce an injunction that anyone who makes a petition to any god or man besides you, O king, for thirty days, shall (K)be cast into the lions’ (f)den.
7 All the presidents of the kingdom, the governors, and the princes, the counsellers, and the captains, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a firm decree, that whosoever shall ask a petition of any God or man for thirty days, save of thee, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions.
7 All the administrators of the kingdom,(I) the prefects, satraps, advisers, and governors have agreed that the king should establish an ordinance and enforce an edict that for 30 days, anyone who petitions any god or man except you, the king, will be thrown into the lions’ den.(J)
7 All of the royal administrators, prefects, regional authorities, scribes, and governors have concluded that the king should establish and enforce an edict that anyone who prays to any god or man for the next 30 days (except to you, your majesty) is to be thrown into the lions' pit.
8 Now, O king! wilt thou establish the interdict, and sign the writing, that it may not be changed - according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which may not be abolished,
8 Now, O king, (L)establish the injunction and sign the document so that it may not be changed, according to the (M)law of the Medes and Persians, which (g)may not be revoked.”
8 Now, O king, establish the decree, and sign the writing, that it be not changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.
8 Therefore, Your Majesty, establish the edict(K) and sign the document so that, as a law of the Medes and Persians, it is irrevocable and cannot be changed.”(L)
8 Therefore, your majesty, establish the decree and sign the written document so it can't be changed, in accordance with the laws of the Medes and Persians that can't be repealed."
10 But, Daniel, when he knew that the writing, was signed, went to his own house, and, the windows being opened to him, in his chamber, toward Jerusalem, three times a day, was he kneeling upon his knees, and praying and giving thanks before his God, in like manner as he had been doing aforetime.
10 Now when Daniel knew that the document was signed, he entered his house (now in his roof chamber he had windows open (O)toward Jerusalem); and he continued (P)kneeling on his knees three times a day, (Q)praying and (R)giving thanks before his God, (h)as he had been doing previously.
10 Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.
10 When Daniel learned that the document had been signed, he went into his house. The windows in its upper room opened toward Jerusalem,(N) and three times a day he got down on his knees, prayed, and gave thanks to his God,(O) just as he had done before.
10 When Daniel learned that the written document had been signed, he went to an upstairs room in his house that had windows opened facing Jerusalem. Three times a day he would kneel down, pray, and give thanks to his God, just as he had previously done.
11 Then, these men, crowded together, and found Daniel, - praying and making supplication, before his God.
11 Then these men came (i)(S)by agreement and found Daniel making petition and supplication before his God.
11 Then these men assembled, and found Daniel praying and making supplication before his God.
11 The conspirators then went as a group and found Daniel praying and seeking help before his God.
12 Then drew they near, and began to speak before the king, concerning the royal interdict, Didst thou not sign, an interdict, that, any man who should petition of any God or man, for thirty days, save of thee, O king, should be cast into the den of lions? The king answered and said, Certain is the thing - according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which may not be abolished.
12 Then they approached and (T)spoke before the king about the king’s injunction, “Did you not sign an injunction that any man who makes a petition to any god or man besides you, O king, for thirty days, is to be cast into the lions’ den?” The king replied, “The statement is true, according to the (U)law of the Medes and Persians, which (j)may not be revoked.”
12 Then they came near, and spake before the king concerning the king's decree; Hast thou not signed a decree, that every man that shall ask a petition of any God or man within thirty days, save of thee, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions? The king answered and said, The thing is true, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.
12 So they approached the king(Q) and asked about his edict: “Didn’t you sign an edict that for 30 days any man who petitions any god or man except you, the king, will be thrown into the lions’ den?”The king answered, “As a law of the Medes and Persians, the order stands and is irrevocable.”(R)
12 So they approached the king and asked, "Didn't you sign an edict that for the next 30 days if anyone prays to any god or man, except to you, your majesty, he would be thrown into the lions' pit?" The king responded, "The decree has been established, in accordance with the laws of the Medes and Persians that can't be repealed."
13 Then answered they and were saying before the king, Daniel, who is of the sons of the exile of Judah, hath made thee, O king, of none account, also the interdict which thou hast signed, - but, three times a day, is asking his petition.
13 Then they answered and spoke before the king, “(V)Daniel, who is one of the (k)exiles from Judah, pays (W)no attention to you, O king, or to the injunction which you signed, but keeps making his petition three times a day.”
13 Then answered they and said before the king, That Daniel, which is of the children of the captivity of Judah, regardeth not thee, O king, nor the decree that thou hast signed, but maketh his petition three times a day.
13 Then they replied to the king, “Daniel, one of the Judean exiles, has ignored you,(S) the king, and the edict you signed, for he prays three times a day.”
13 Then they told the king, "Daniel, who is one of the Judean exiles, pays no attention to you, your majesty, or to the written decree, since he is still praying three times a day."
14 Then, the king, when he heard, the matter, was sorely displeased with himself, and, upon Daniel, set his heart, to deliver him, - and, until the going in of the sun, was striving to rescue him.
14 Then, as soon as the king heard this statement, he was deeply (X)distressed and set his mind on delivering Daniel; and even until sunset he kept exerting himself to rescue him.
14 Then the king, when he heard these words, was sore displeased with himself, and set his heart on Daniel to deliver him: and he laboured till the going down of the sun to deliver him.
14 As soon as the king heard this, he was very displeased; he set his mind on rescuing Daniel(T) and made every effort until sundown to deliver him.
14 When the king heard this, he was greatly upset, because he was determined to make every effort to save Daniel before the sun set.
15 Then, these men, crowded unto the king, - and were saying to the king, Know, O king, that the law of the Medes and Persians is, that, no interdict nor statute which the king establisheth, may be changed.
15 Then these men came (l)by agreement to the king and said to the king, “Recognize, O king, that it is a (Y)law of the Medes and Persians that no injunction or statute which the king establishes may be changed.”
15 Then these men assembled unto the king, and said unto the king, Know, O king, that the law of the Medes and Persians is, That no decree nor statute which the king establisheth may be changed.
15 Then these men went to the king and said to him, “You as king know it is a law of the Medes and Persians that no edict or ordinance the king establishes can be changed.”(U)
15 But the men who had gone as a group to the king told him, "Remember, your majesty, that according to the laws of the Medes and Persians, any decree or edict that the king establishes cannot be repealed."
16 Then, the king, gave word, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. The king spake and said to Daniel, - Thy God, whom thou art serving continually, he, will deliver thee.
16 Then the king gave orders, and Daniel was brought in and (Z)cast into the lions’ den. The king spoke and said to Daniel, “(m)(AA)Your God whom you constantly serve will Himself deliver you.”
16 Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. Now the king spake and said unto Daniel, Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver thee.
16 So the king gave the order, and they brought Daniel and threw him into the lions’ den.(V) The king said to Daniel, “May your God, whom you serve continually,(W) rescue you!”
16 At this point, the king ordered Daniel brought in and thrown into the lions' pit. The king spoke to Daniel, "Your God, whom you serve constantly, will deliver you himself."
17 And there was brought a certain stone, and laid upon the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet-ring, and with the signet-ring of his nobles, that nothing might be changed, as to Daniel.
17 A (AB)stone was brought and laid over the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet ring and with the signet rings of his nobles, so that nothing would be changed in regard to Daniel.
17 And a stone was brought, and laid upon the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his lords; that the purpose might not be changed concerning Daniel.
17 A stone was brought and placed over the mouth of the den.(X) The king sealed it with his own signet ring and with the signet rings of his nobles, so that nothing in regard to Daniel could be changed.
17 A stone was brought and placed over the opening to the pit, and the king affixed a seal to it with his personal signet ring and with the signet rings of his officials so that no one would interfere with Daniel's situation.
18 Then the king departed to his palace, and spent the night fasting, and no, table, was brought in before him, - and, his sleep, fled from him.
18 Then the king went off to his palace and spent the night (AC)fasting, and no entertainment was brought before him; and his (AD)sleep fled from him.
18 Then the king went to his palace, and passed the night fasting: neither were instruments of musick brought before him: and his sleep went from him.
18 Then the king went to his palace and spent the night fasting.(Y) No diversions(c) were brought to him, and he could not sleep.(Z)
18 Then the king retired to his palace to spend the night fasting. He enjoyed no entertainment, and he couldn't sleep.
19 Then the king rose early, with the dawn, - and, hastily - unto the den of lions, departed;
19 Then the king arose at dawn, at the break of day, and went in haste to the lions’ den.
19 Then the king arose very early in the morning, and went in haste unto the den of lions.
19 At the first light of dawn the king got up and hurried to the lions’ den.
19 The king got up at dawn and went quickly to the lions' pit.
20 and, when he drew near to the den, unto Daniel, with distressed voice, made he outcry, - the king spake and said unto Daniel, O Daniel! servant of the Living God! Thy God, whom thou art serving continually, hath he been able to deliver thee from the lions?
20 When he had come near the den to Daniel, he cried out with a troubled voice. The king spoke and said to Daniel, “Daniel, servant of the living God, has (AE)your God, whom you constantly serve, been (AF)able to deliver you from the lions?”
20 And when he came to the den, he cried with a lamentable voice unto Daniel: and the king spake and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, is thy God, whom thou servest continually, able to deliver thee from the lions?
20 When he reached the den, he cried out in anguish to Daniel. “Daniel, servant of the living God,” the king said,(d) “has your God whom you serve continually been able to rescue you(AA) from the lions?”
20 As he approached where Daniel was in the pit, he cried out to him in a voice filled with anguish, "Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve constantly, been able to deliver you from the lions?"
22 My God, hath sent his messenger, and hath shut the mouth of the lions, and they have not hurt me; forasmuch as, before him, rectitude was found in me, moreover also, before thee, O king, no, crime, had I committed.
22 My God (AH)sent His angel and (AI)shut the lions’ mouths and they have not harmed me, inasmuch as (o)I was found innocent before Him; and also (p)toward you, O king, I have committed no crime.”
22 My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt.
22 My God sent His angel(AB) and shut the lions’ mouths. They haven’t hurt me, for I was found innocent before Him. Also, I have not committed a crime against you my king.”
22 My God sent his angel and sealed the mouths of the lions. They have not harmed me, proving that I'm innocent before him. Also against you, your majesty, I've committed no offense."
23 Then, the king, was exceedingly glad concerning him, and gave word to take up, Daniel, out of the den. So Daniel, was taken up, out of the den, and, no manner of hurt, was found in him, for that he had trusted in his God.
23 Then the king was very pleased and gave orders for Daniel to be taken up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den and (AJ)no injury whatever was found on him, because he had (AK)trusted in his God.
23 Then was the king exceeding glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God.
23 The king was overjoyed and gave orders to take Daniel out of the den. So Daniel was taken out of the den, uninjured, for he trusted in his God.(AC)
23 The king was ecstatic, so he gave orders for Daniel to be released from the pit. Daniel was taken up from the pit, and no injury was found to have been inflicted on him, because he had believed in his God.
24 And the king, gave word, that they should bring those men who had accused Daniel, and, into the den of lions, they cast them - them, their children, and their wives, - and, they had not reached the bottom of the den, when the lions, seized them, and, all their bones, brake they in pieces.
24 The king then gave orders, and they brought those men who had (q)maliciously accused Daniel, and they (AL)cast them, their (AM)children and their wives into the lions’ den; and they had not reached the bottom of the den before the lions overpowered them and crushed all their bones.
24 And the king commanded, and they brought those men which had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and the lions had the mastery of them, and brake all their bones in pieces or ever they came at the bottom of the den.
24 The king then gave the command, and those men who had maliciously accused Daniel(e)(AD) were brought and thrown into the lions’ den—they, their children, and their wives.(AE) They had not reached the bottom of the den before the lions overpowered them and crushed all their bones.
24 Then the king gave orders to bring those men who had tried to have Daniel devoured, and they threw them, their children, and their wives into the lions' pit. They had not reached the floor of the pit before the lions had overtaken them and crushed all their bones.
25 Then, Darius the king, wrote to all the peoples, the races, and the tongues who were dwelling in all the earth, Your prosperity abound!
25 Then Darius the king wrote to all the (AN)peoples, nations and men of every (r)language who were living in all the land: “(AO)May your (s)peace abound!
25 Then king Darius wrote unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto you.
25 Then King Darius wrote to those of every people, nation, and language who live in all the earth: “May your prosperity abound.(AF)
25 Afterward, King Darius wrote to all nations, nations, and languages who lived throughout his realm: "May great prosperity be yours!
26 From before me, is appointed a decree that, throughout every dominion of my kingdom, men tremble and withdraw falteringly from before the God of Daniel, - for that, he, is the Living God, and abiding for ages, and, his kingdom, that which shall not be destroyed, and, his dominion, is unto the end:
26 (t)I (AP)make a decree that in all the dominion of my kingdom men are to fear and tremble before the God of Daniel;For He is the (AQ)living God and (AR)enduring forever,And (AS)His kingdom is one which will not be destroyed,And His dominion will be (u)forever.
26 I make a decree, That in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for he is the living God, and stedfast for ever, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be even unto the end.
26 I issue a decree(AG) that in all my royal dominion, people must tremble in fear before the God of Daniel:(AH)For He is the living God,and He endures forever;His kingdom will never be destroyed,(AI)and His dominion has no end.
26 "I hereby decree that in every area of my kingdom men are to fear and tremble before the God of Daniel. For he is the living God, who endures forever. His kingdom is one that will not be destroyed, and his dominion continues forever.
27 who delivereth and rescueth and worketh signs and wonders, in the heavens, and in the earth, - for that he hath delivered Daniel out of the power of the lions.
27 “He delivers and rescues and performs (AT)signs and wondersIn heaven and on earth,Who has also delivered Daniel from the (v)power of the lions.”
27 He delivereth and rescueth, and he worketh signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.
27 He rescues and delivers;He performs signs and wondersin the heavens and on the earth,(AJ)for He has rescued Danielfrom the power of the lions.”
27 He delivers and rescues and performs signs and wonders in heaven and on earth. He has delivered Daniel from the power of the lions."
28 And, this Daniel, prospered in the reign of Darius, - and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian. :
28 So this (AU)Daniel enjoyed success in the reign of Darius and in the reign of (AV)Cyrus the Persian.
28 So this Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius, and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.
28 Daniel achieved success during the reigns of Darius and Cyrus the Persian.
