Jehovah revealed the following message to Samuel before Saul came:

Samuel asked the people: Do you see whom Jehovah has chosen? There is no one like him among all the people. Then all the people shouted: Long live the king!

Jesse sent for him. He was a handsome, healthy young man, and his eyes sparkled. Jehovah said to Samuel: This is the one. Anoint him!

For a long time when Saul was still our king, you led the people of Israel in battle. Jehovah promised you that you would lead his people and be their ruler.

These are the numbers of armed warriors who joined David at Hebron. They were all eager to see David become king instead of Saul, just as Jehovah had promised.

He is the one who will build a house for my name. He will be my son, and I will be his father. I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel for a very ong time.'

Of all my sons, for Jehovah has given me many sons, he has chosen my son Solomon to sit on the throne of Jehovah's kingdom to rule Israel.

The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against Jehovah and against his Anointed One.
