Deuteronomy 5:26

Treasury of Scripture Knowledge

For who is there of all flesh, that hath heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as we have, and lived?

Did a people ever hear the voice of a god speaking out of the midst of fire, as, thou, didst hear, and yet live?

And God beheld the earth, and lo! it had corrupted itself, - surely all flesh had corrupted its way, on the earth.

A voice saying Cry! And one said - What should I cry? All flesh, is grass, And, all the grace thereof, like the flower of the field:

Inasmuch as, by works of law, shall no flesh be declared righteous before him, - through law, in fact, is discovery of sin.

Face to face, spake Yahweh with you in the mount out of the midst of the fire,

that Yahweh thy God may tell us the way wherein we should walk, - and the thing that we should do.

For ye have not approached - unto, a searching and scorching fire, and gloom, and mist, and tempest,
